Supergirl 6x15 : Hope for Tomorrow review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
What do you get when you combine a nuclear war, Supergirl's gauntlet for peace and Alex and Kelly growing ever closer as they've now adopted the young alien girl Esme?? well you get this episode. It's a wild ride of an episode that begins with the young girl Esme being shown her new room as she meets Kara and J'onn for the first time. Her powers consist of her being able to mimic any other alien she is around. The bulk of the episode is mainly her being slowly introduced to more and more powers by Alex and Kelly who try to ease her into the new living situation. With Alex and Kelly busy with Esme this leaves Supergirl and J'onn on the hunt for the Hope Totem which is at The Hague building in the Netherlands as we saw last week. Supergirl and J'onn turn up just as Nyxly attempts to retrieve the totem but she manages to get away but she doesn't get the totem as unlike the totem last week there is a gauntlet to pass before it can be used. The gauntlet requires whoever wants the totem to instill an incredible amount of peace and hope into the world and while hope is Supergirl's forte Kara is a bit thrown off and doesn't know where to even begin. While her and J'onn are at the Hague building we see the Kaznia and Corto Maltese Government arguing over a peace deal. After Nxyly disappeared earlier energy was left behind which has turned all the Government officials angry with nuclear war seemingly on the horizon. That is unless Supergirl can get the Hope Totem. So with Supergirl going off to try and instill peace and hope J'onn stays behind to use his power to ease the mind of the officials and buy some time.
Back at the tower and Esme meets William, Lena and Brainy as Alex pushes even harder this time to get Esme to use her abilities. First she uses Brainy but when that is no real use she enlists Supergirl to help and although at first it looks to be going well when Esme uses superhearing but when that becomes overwhelming for her she runs off in a state of shock with Alex not far behind. Kelly shows back up later as Esme is left with a feeling of sadness as she says that she might as well be brought back to the group home where she was living. This leads to Alex and Kelly getting a truth seeker as a sort of pet for Esme as whenever she is around the parasite like creature nothing but the truth will be seen and heard. A pretty smart move as Alex and Kelly really don't want to let Esme go as they're only growing even closer because of it.
The episode draws to a close as Nxyly who we see back aboard her ship comes up with a plan. A plan that includes letting Supergirl get the Hope Totem. But not only that her plan also involves kidnapping William for leverage as she attempts to lure Supergirl into a situation where she is forced to hand over the other totem she has in her possession. Supergirl gets to work in the mean time and her gauntlet for peace involves the Kaznia and Corto Maltese Government. When things get out of control and missiles are launched Supergirl and team stop the missiles from doing any damage. When she returns to get the Hope Totem she is successful which is just what Nxyly wanted. When Kara goes to see her she is met by William who is tied up. Supergirl ends up holding onto the Hope Totem as her psychic connection with Nxyly is lost. The fifth dimensional imp retreats to her ship leaving William behind as Supergirl picks up the pieces. The episode ends with Supergirl tossing the Hope Totem right into the sun much to the disgust of Nxyly. She is seen on her ship as with this totem destroyed the all powerful final totem she needed which required all totems to be constructed cannot be completed. A portal then opens on her ship as a present floats onto the ship. Complete with a parachute Nxyly opens the present and it's a gift from a secret admirer. It's a watch and as Nxyly presses the watch we learn that the secret admirer is none other than Lex Luthor himself! yes it looks like we're getting a Lex & Nxyly team up as the end of the season draws near. And that was the episode. Not bad by any means, in fact I did like it quite a bit but it did feel slow in some parts while others it thrived. A straight thumbs in the middle for me which all things considering isn't all bad.
