Supergirl 6x14 : Magical Thinking review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Supergirl is back with another new episode. Can it continue this shows recent rich vein of form? or will it fall back into mediocrity? the episode begins as we see everyone enjoying their weekly game night at Kara's apartment. Kara isn't present but soon shows up and says that there is no time for game night now. It's clear from here that Kara's connection with Nyxly is getting stronger and more intense. When everyone tells Kara that they need some time off she begins to laugh uncontrollably which in itself made me laugh. This is because of Nyxly who is currently very happy as she has located the second totem which turns out to be the Humanity totem. The totem is inside an arena in National City. As Nyxly goes to retrieve it we see that a fighter has it in his possession as it's a piece of wood from a special tree. Nyxly busts into the arena and demands that he hand over the totem. He does and she activates it but this time rather than having to face a gauntlet nothing happens and the totem just appears before her. Supergirl arrives within seconds and uses her cape to shield people from Nyxly's power but as it turns out the totem does something as it takes the humanity from everyone in the surrounding area leaving them angry, violent and intent on chaos. With the city in turmoil Kara goes to ask a new witch Lena. But before we get there we gotta discuss William and how he is now a part of the Superfriends as he is there to strictly write about them but with plenty of rules in place. Rules like not exposing any of their identities and the like. Can William be trusted??
With the city in turmoil like I mentioned Kara goes to see Lena and asks her to help with her newfound magic powers. Lena agrees and the two along with Nia who has been helping Lena with her powers get to work. Back on Mitch's ship we see Nyxly ecstatic over getting the Humanity totem. The next totem is already in sight and it's in Holland / Netherlands in a highly secured building. As Nyxly touches down in Holland at the location of the totem all she has to do is kill a security guard but she can't do it. Why? well because in National City Lena has already put a magic spell in place but it goes wrong at first or at least that's what they think. As the spell gets put in motion it strips people of even more of their humanity placing it back into Nyxly who can't even go through with getting the third totem because of the overwhelming feeling she is experiencing. Could this prove to be the flaw that stops her this time around?? back at the tower and much to her disappointment at first Lena does come around to Kara's plan which is to entice Nyxly out of hiding by Lena doing the same magic spell but this time on a much bigger scale and amount. Will it work??
The episode draws to a close as Lena's spell does indeed work as it strips even more of their humanity thus placing it all back into the holder of the Humanity totem which is Nyxly. When this happens she is overcome again with strong feelings of humanity. Even more strong than earlier which in turn leads to her giving everyone back their humanity as the city is saved. But what of the totem?? well she tosses it off her ship and Supergirl who had been helping everyone deal with the goings on below in National City catches it and takes it back to the tower before placing it in a containment box. Speaking of back at the tower William gets the go ahead to publish a story detailing what just happened and Nyxly's involvement in the whole thing. Andrea wants more at first but he refutes her by saying that it's his story and he will do it whatever way he wants. So it's a win for the team this week as they now have the Humanity totem in their possession. Which totem is up next?? well Nia says that she can help with the Dream totem and the episode ends as Nyxly says she is going after the Hope totem. This was an enjoyably episode for sure and while very solid it just didn't do it for me like the past few weeks did. Lacking a lot of emotion this episode while fine was more of a stop gap more than anything I felt. Not bad just nothing amazing. Here's hoping next week can bring the quality right back up to where it should be once again.
