Stargirl 2x11 : Summer School : Chapter Eleven review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Stargirl is back with a new episode and after a wild and crazy ending last week this episode has a lot to live up to. It begins with Pat informing his family about just what happened to Courtney. The family is seen hugging and crying in the main room of the home. Courtney is gone..or is she?? the episode truly opens up with Courtney who we see waking up in the middle of Blue Valley. The entire scene and majority of the episode is done in black and white. It's a great touch as this is a rabbit hole that Courtney has descended down into and she is seemingly stuck here. When Courtney comes across the diner she goes inside and comes across the entire Zarrick Family. The Zarricks who were headed by The Wizard who was apart of the ISA. Courtney gets flashbacks to her past as the people inside of the diner begin to surround her. She is quickly thrown into a new area and it's her school. She experiences some old things like seeing a magic trick by William Zarrick's son just like in season 1 and also Cindy. Yes Cindy who shows up and attacks Courtney. But this is actually real it's not just a flashback or anything else. Cindy takes Courtney into a bedroom and tells her that this is the Shadowlands. A dark feeding place where Eclipso was born. The Shadowlands is compared to Purgatory by Cindy who ends up blaming Courtney for everything that's happened. That's actually a running theme here Courtney getting blamed for pretty much everything happening since this show began. Cindy soon ends up getting taken away by her father the Dragon King who is present in the Shadowlands. He can be killed as Cindy has already done so but he comes back every time.

With Cindy taken away Courtney attempts to get out of the Shadowlands but only ends up going deeper and deeper as the entire area begins to change. Just as it's getting darker however none other than Dr Mid-Nite shows up and takes Courtney out of this area and into a room he calls an illusion. A room that is the mirror image of the old JSA garage. Here Dr Mid-Nite tells Courtney about The Shade and how he not only saved him by sending him to the Shadowlands but he also apologized for not doing more about Eclipso. They actually considered each other friends. Speaking of The Shade back in the normal world Beth and the others encourage Jennie to use her Green Lantern ring to locate The Shade. She does and low and behold she finds The Shade and it turns out he is hiding out in a movie theater.

The episode draws to a close as Pat and Barbara go and see The Shade who is very much still weak. They ask him to help get Courtney out of the Shadowlands and although he refuses at first he agrees soon enough. He stands up and places his hand in the air transforming the movie theater screen from showcasing a classic movie to showcasing Courtney and Dr Mid-Nite in the old JSA garage. They're all set to get out but Courtney realizes that Cindy is still inside of the Shadowlands and she decides to go and save her and get her out also. When she does The Shade is forced to continue straining himself as Court dashes to find Cindy. She doesn't find her right away instead she comes across the kid form of Eclipso. He blames Courtney for everything much like Cindy earlier. He says that she not only ruined Yolanda's life but Ricks also. He even says that Courtney's fixation on her father and her anger towards him is what drives the darkness around her. She even feels the same way about Eclipso he says but Courtney refutes this. Could all of this infact be true?? Courtney soon gets to Cindy and the two along with Dr Mid-Nite escape from the Shadowlands. As for The Shade? well it turns out he is pushed to the limit and passes away in front of everyone. He asks Barbara to tell everyone that he done something good before his demise which she agrees. So The Shade is dead but in doing so he became a hero. A fitting end for a really well done and portrayed character. The episode ends as Cindy who is behind everyone yells out asking who wants to kill Eclipso?? and that was the episode. Another fine entry into a season that is very strong indeed. 2 episodes now remain and who knows what's going to happen. I know Eclipso will be taken down as season 3 is confirmed to be happening but seeing how that is going to be done is going to be very interesting that's for sure. Overall though a great episode with further great character development.
