Legends Of Tomorrow 7x2 : The Need for Speed review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
After what was a rather interesting and different season premiere last week can this weeks direct follow up episode of DC's Legends Of Tomorrow be good?? the answer is yes. Yes it can! the episode begins as we see the Legends coming to grips with the situation they're in. J Edgar Hoover is dead, the timeline is surely going to be messed up and Gary is struggling with indigestion from devouring the former head of the FBI. On the radio there is also reports of the Bullet Blondes ( Sara and Ava ) still being at large and are considered both dangerous and wanted women. They all hear this as they attempt to get the car they stole from Hoover up and running again. While Behrad is at work doing that Nate is pretty shaken up about what's happened. Not only did he kill J Edgar Hoover last week but he feels very much responsible for destroying the timeline. Sara and Ava try to talk to him and come up with a plan in the process. Maybe J Edgar Hoover isn't dead, that is to safe if Nate portrays him again. But not like before no this time he will literally become him with the help of a repulsive Alien trick by Gary. All Gary needs is some form of Hoover which he gets by coughing up some hair. Upon placing it in a cola bottle to ferment Nate is thrown into a train ride with Behrad and Gary pretending to be J Edgar Hoover. As for Sara and Ava they also get on a train pretending to have just been captured. Why are they on a train? well it turns out Hoover has an appointment to make and he has to take a train to get there. As of now Nate is still Nate and as they all get on board and into the honeymoon suite both Sara and Ava use the key given to Zari to go back to the pocket dimension to enjoy their very own little honeymoon..hint hint.
Speaking of Zari she is back at Constantine's pocket dimension house and she is very much under the influence of drugs. Thanks to some gummy bears left behind by Behrad her mood is all over the place switching from strange and bewildered to acting fast and strange. Ava and Sara don't take much notice of her at first but Ava often seen coming downstairs to her from the bedroom upstairs. But more on this in a bit we got to talk about Spooner, Astra and Gideon. As you can recall the ending of last weeks episode saw Astra unwittingly conjure a human form of Gideon. Well this week they try to get to know just what happened but Gideon cannot speak or at least she seemingly can't speak at all. Astra and Spooner along with Spooners mom attempt to get through to Gideon with things like trying to decipher her apple art (yes apple art) and other weirdly bizarre things. They look set to give up but things take a spiritual approach when Spooners mom tells her that her touch is special and how it was the only way she communicated with her before the age of 6. Could this unlock the secret of understanding Gideon??
The episode draws to a close aboard the train and once Nate ingests the Alien, J Edgar Hoover infused cola made by Gary he comes J Edgar Hoover and is brought directly into little detective spots on the train. From a missing purse to interrogating a supposed threat to his life Nate is put through the paces and looks like he is about to crack under the pressure of it all but he gets through it. He gets through it just as the real threat rears it's head that is. It's none other than Al Capone. He isn't present but a big number of his thugs are and they're present to kill J Edgar Hoover. Nate drops everything and accepts his fate but when he goes outside the Alien trick has worn off. He is just Nate Heywood again much to Capone's gang anger. Before I talk about what happens next I got to talk about Zari again. While her drug effects wear off it leaves her with a new lease of life so to speak. A lease of life that spirals into hyper mode when she finds a bottle of whiskey in the fridge. Then another, then another, then another and well you get it. It's a never ending fridge of magical whiskey bottles which she uses to lay out a giant list of villains / people who could be possible for blowing up the waverider. People like Damien Darhk to time itself are shifted the blame but one is more wild than any others. It's not show what it says on the bottle but when J Edgar Hoover shows up. Yes I said that right J Edgar Hoover shows up to confront Nate and the Al Capone gang it all comes full circle. It's not long before all the Legends are present with Sara knocking out Hoover. When he is on the ground and not bleeding after being struck with glass the skin on his face looks rubber and loose. It's removed to show that it's not J Edgar Hoover infact it's actually a robot. With robots being the thing Zari had written down on one of the bottles. So Legends are facing Robots this season?? that's a very interesting concept and something I did not expect truth be told. The episode ends back at Spooners home as she uses her touch on Gideon. When she touches her she hears her voice. She tells her that the Legends have 2 weeks until Dr Gwen Davies launches his time travel presentation which is what they need to go get to in New York City. Gideon soon actually speaks as the three of them all agree to pack up and set out to New York City. That's how the episode ends and this was a really enjoyable episode filled with tight and fast paced storytelling. I enjoyed it more than last week honestly and overall with Robots seemingly being a big threat this season just what could happen?? who truly knows with this show. All in all this was a very good episode like I said and as a whole Legends Of Tomorrow is on really solid ground right now in terms of quality.
