Batwoman 3x3 : Freeze review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Another week and another good episode of Batwoman infact this is a great episode of Batwoman with many emotional and impactful character moments and development. The episode opens up with a business man chasing down a bus. He ends up missing it but luckily for him it may be the best thing that's ever happened to him as onboard we see two school children. One is playing a handheld video game but the other has a strange canister in his hands. This strange canister turns out to have belonged to none other than Victor Fries also known as Mr Freeze. The bus completely freezes over leaving everyone inside seemingly frozen. When a report later comes on the news that is when we learn that said canister once belonged to none other than Victor Fries who is said to have passed away. The canister was found by the river after washing up along the shoreline. At the end of last weeks episode we saw Ryan introduce herself to her mom Jada Jet. Well this week she gets the cold shoulder from her..literally. Jada Jet informs Ryan that wants absolutely nothing to do with her and if she continues to pursue a relationship she will make sure both Ryan and Wayne Enterprises will suffer. Enter Marquis Jet son of Jada Jet. That's right Ryan has a younger brother who is the son of Jada Jet and Vice President of Jeturian Industries. He's cool, confident and takes a shine to Ryan later showing up at her office asking her to work with him right under their mom's noses, but will Ryan take him up on the offer??

Back at the bat-cave and thanks to Luke we learn that the Freeze canister was brought to GCPD lockup. Batwoman ends up breaking into the GCPD lockup herself to get the canister but predictably it has already been taken by someone else. That someone else is named Dee Smithy sister of none other than Nora Fries. That's right Nora Fries who was on ice (literally) for 20 years. Having recently escaped her confinement and cryostasis she has began to age at a highly dangerous rate. When she escaped she was the same age she was before entering cryo sleep which was 34. She is still that age now but looks as if she is 70+ years old. It turns out that it was her sister who took the canister of Freeze's formula as she plans on putting her sister back on ice. We hear them talk about this at their home but they're interrupted by a gang of criminals who break in and not only kidnap them but want them to take them to the only cryochamber in Gotham which is located at Ace Chemicals. Batwoman soon gets wind of all of this and turns up at Ace Chemicals intent on stopping the gang and saving Nora and her sister. Things don't go well for Batwoman who ends up getting locked into the cryo chamber herself but not before she ends Nora off to see Mary at her clinic. With her sister left behind to power up the chamber Batwoman is forced to stay inside of it and face severe hypothermia if she isn't saved within minutes, will Bat-Wing come to her rescue??

The episode draws to a close as Luke does indeed suit up as Bat-Wing even though Mary is still against it even though she cleared him for the field. She says that was a mistake a bit later on as Ryan learns of Luke's PTSD problem. Bat-Wing ends up saving Batwoman from hypothermia but thanks to some help from Sophie she manages to stay awake in the chamber long enough for it to truly kick in and freeze her to death. When she gets out both Bat-Wing and Batwoman enter the Bat-mobile and chase down the criminals. They end up on a bridge which gets partially exploded by a grenade of sorts. Our hero's have to think fast and that's exactly what they do as Bat-wing uses the Freeze formula inside of the canister to freeze the bridge just as Batwoman switches to spike tires which helps her glide across the ice. A badass move indeed. The gang still end up escaping with a notebook containing all of Victor Fries's plans but Nora's sister is returned safe and sound. We're soon back with Ryan who is seen at a coffee place looking up her brother online. Sophie arrives and the two have a really good scene here. Ryan tells her that all she really wants is a mom. A real mom not the mom that Jada Jet is, she also says that she isn't going to take up her brothers offer instead she is going to put the team first which as of right now makes sense given just how strongly connected Jada Jet really is throughout Gotham. The episode ends in a park as we see both Nora and her sister talking. Dee is still intent on her sister re-entering cryostasis but Nora tells her no. She intends on living the rest of her life however long that may be by breathing in fresh air and enjoying the precious moments. Mary is at the park here too giving Nora some pain medicine after earlier treating her. The episode ends on a pretty big cliffhanger as just as Mary is walking away she looks back but when doing so branches of Ivy wrap around her and drag her off into the distance. This of course is none other than Poison Ivy who is surely going to show up in the next episode?? that's how the episode ends and man this was a good one, and I didn't even mention the things like Alice wanting the nano bots injected into her by Luke last week to be removed as she is seemingly getting sick but also things like Sophie and Ryan's relationship heating up. Truth be told Batwoman is at a really good place right now and hopefully it can stay that way because this is probably as close as we'll ever get to a full on Batman show from any network.
