Supergirl 6x9 : Dream Weaver review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

After last weeks return can this weeks episode of Supergirl continue a good reign of form as a mere 10-11 episodes now remain of this show which is just crazy and surreal to even think of. The episode begins inside of Nia's dream world. At the end of last weeks episode we saw Nia wake up and call out the name of Nyxly who we know made it back with Supergirl and co from the Phantom Zone. Inside of Nia's dream she is inside of a forest like area and sees her mom off in the distance with an owl on her arm. She attempts to get closer but ends up getting whisked away by Nyxlys magic whom we see lingering in the background. Back in the real world of National City and at Cat.Co we see that Andrea is still heavily intent on getting interviews, and all other forms of media relating to the 'Superfriends' which is Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, Brainiac-5, Dreamer and Sentinel. She even has a big display board which showcases them as she insists that Kara and William do the heavy lifting when it comes to getting interviews to boost Cat.Co's popularity and make them the #1 ranked news media outlet in the city and beyond. With Andrea on their backs Kara and William attempt to get to work but Kara ends up getting roped into Supergirl work soon after. Reports of truck robberies have been reported in the city and along with J'onn Supergirl investigate the latest report and incident. When they arrive they find all kinds of different things. From a residue that can make things invisible all the way to metal manipulation. What could this all mean?? well it's all linked to a presumed bomb making operation given the material and residues on sight. With a bomb of that kind in the making that could spell trouble for National City.

We're soon back in the dream world and this time Nia meets Nyxly in her dream-scape. Nyxly tells her who she is and knows exactly what she wants. To see her mother. So a deal is offered. Help Nyxly escape the dream world and she will use her magic to bring Nia's mother back from the dead but only for a 24 hour period as even though Imps are extremely powerful there are limits. This deal is left to simmer as Nia soon wakes up but we do get a conclusion a bit later. Onto Kelly Olsen now and she begins a new job project which entails her working at a care home for alien children. Inside she meets the person who runs the home and various children whose powers are dampened while inside of the home. Kelly ends up meeting a young boy named Joey who is in the home because his older brother a man named Orlando is in prison after robbing a store to try and get a home for them both. Now in prison Orlando is a part of a worker program that had previously been put in place to help the inmates get back into tip top shape for when they're eventually released back into society. Joey however thinks that his brother is being forced to use his powers because Orlando has abilities that basically make him a living EMP. While visiting his brother in prison Joey noticed that his brother had black circles under his eyes which means that he is being overworked / his powers being abused. Kelly who is worried by these words goes to Kara for help going to the prison as it was she who wrote an article on the prison and the worker program a few years back. The two go and visit the warden to inquiry about Orlando but the warden insists that everything is fine. It turns out not surprisingly that everything is not fine and this all ties into the truck robberies from earlier as it's soon revealed that Orlando and some other members of the worker program are being used to collect various materials and supplies that will be used to create dirty bombs. When Supergirl learns of this her drive to expose everyone involved things centerfold over everything else that Andrea wants. She asks William to ask his CIA contact for a deep dive on the warden which leads to info on the warden being totally corrupt coming to the limelight. He was lying earlier after all and with one final mission with the inmates about to happen it's up to Supergirl and J'onn to stop them from getting enough materials and supplies to stop the making of bombs.

The episode draws to a close as Kelly again returns to the alien carehome where she finds the person in charge almost super charging Joey. Kelly goes to pretty extreme lengths here to expose the woman as she downloads footage from the security camera and uses it to get her removed from her position. Joey is soon reunited with his brother Orlando after Supergirl intervenes and stops the final mission to get materials and supplies. She manages to talk Orlando and the other inmates around and as it turns out Orlando ends up getting released from prison. It's a new start for Orlando and Joey as we see them leave together as Kelly gets praise from one of the other children. She even calls Kelly the 'Guardian Angel' of the care home which ties into what happens at the end of the episode. As back at Alex and Kelly's apartment Kelly talks about how fulfilled she has felt helping the kids in the care home. Alex tells her that she has a surprise for her and takes a box from one of the cupboard doors. Upon opening the box Kelly is shocked to find Guardian's mask inside. Refurbished and redesigned a little with approval from Jimmy Olsen it is set that Kelly is going to become the new Guardian so it'll be interesting to see where that goes and what happens. The episode ends back in the dream world as Nia accepts Nyxly's deal which is now set in stone. That too will also be very interesting to watch unfold as the season goes on. And that was the episode. It was very solid with an extremely good narrative running throughout. Nothing incredible mind but it was solid indeed. Like I said last week it's so great to have Supergirl back and back at her almost best.
