Supergirl 6x10 : Still I Rise review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

This weeks episode of Supergirl is a direct follow up to last weeks. The episode begins as Nyxly leads Nia out of the dream world and back into the land of the living. Now last week we saw that Nia agreed to a deal with Nyxly which included bringing her mom back for 24 hours and in return Nyxly will be able to go home. But as you know never trust a fifth dimensional imp as almost instantly Nyxly goes back on some terms of their agreement. Instead of giving Nia a perfect 24 hours with her mom instead she confines her to her home for a 24 hour period with no way of getting word to anybody outside. She is bound by a magical force which is very strong. As for Nyxly she loses her power after draining it all bringing Nia's mom back from the dead for a day. She leaves Nia's home powerless but with evil intentions in mind. Nia's mom tells her that she has unleashed a horrible force of evil on the earth. In last weeks episode we saw Kelly Olsen help two brothers in Orlando and Joey when it came to their lives with Orlando freshly out of prison and Joey still in his care home this week Kelly learns that Orlando was denied a house to live in. He needs a place to live and also a job before he can become the full time guardian of his brother. When Kelly tells Kara this she vowed to help Orlando if he ran into any difficulty last week and now she returns said words and does everything in her power to help him both as Kara Danvers the intrepid reporter and Supergirl.

Speaking of Nyxly again however while out and about in National City she ends up getting beamed onto a ship by none other than the former helper of Nixam Tork who we last saw trying to capture a high school teenage Kara Danvers. He isn't present but his co worker Mitch is and without any real things to show to Nixam he is left by himself. So when he captures Nyxlys he thinks he has struck gold but when she reveals she has no powers she is let go but instead offers her help in trying to capture Supergirl. A tempting offer indeed. Back with Kara now and she goes to visit the councilwoman in charge of the housing area where Orlando applied to stay. It turns out there is a yes / no vote on the area the following day which could lead to affordable housing for those less off than others being stricken off the books. Kara is strongly for the people of the area who deserve a second chance but the councilwoman doesn't seem to agree at all. What can Kara do with only mere hours remaining??

The episode draws to a close as Supergirl rallies Orlando as the two along with Kelly attend the vote which is where Orlando stands up and gives a pretty passionate speech about what has been happening to him and how it's affected not only him but his brother too. When this is happening Nylxy is putting a trap for Supergirl into place along with Mitch and a captured alien mechanic. It turns out said trap is a crypto-bomb that when set off will incase a Kryptonian in ice. While the vote is ongoing disaster strikes as the building is evacuated as Supergirl and J'onn deal with the bomb. Supergirl powers it down with her heat vision as the building begins to slowly turn to ice. Supergirl and J'onn manage to stop the process and all seems well. That is until just before the episode ends we see Nxyly turn up outside of the home that Kara was attempting to get a no vote on. Speaking of that building good prevails but it's all about to come crumbling down (literally) as Supergirl and Nyxly come face to face for the first time since The Phantom Zone. Nyxly accuses Supergirl of turning on her. She explains that the crypto-bomb was more so of a ruse than anything else. When Supergirl powered it down with her heat vision Nyxly's powers were fully restored. She freezes Supergirl right on the spot before saying you can only beat magic with magic. This leaves Supergirl but with no other choice than to call for help in the form of none other than a returning Mister Mxyzptlk. The magical imp returns just as the episode fades to the logo. And that was the episode. And to be honest it was fine just nothing amazing. That's what this show has been for a long time now even before it's long hiatus. This show while solid hasn't been doing anything extremely good for quite some time now and right now it's just a bit meh. That being said there is nothing overly bad here just nothing overly amazing either. Here's hoping we get a good send off for the show as it richly deserves that at the very least.
