Stargirl 2x4 : Summer School : Chapter Four review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Stargirl returns for another round and this weeks episode begins with Artemis whom we see visiting her parents in prison. Her parents who are Sportsmaster and Tigress respectively. Artemis talks to her mom and dad about how the food she gets in summer school is nowhere near the standard of what she is used to. She also mentions that she has a football game soon and is pretty bummed that they will not be in attendance. Artemis is soon forced to leave the prison by the security guard and this leads right into the title card. The episode opens up with Beth who is seen still working on her goggles but to no real avail. She does however find a file on Eclipso from the JSA file database with confidential highlighted over it. What is hiding under the confidential warning?? back at the Whitmore home and Courtney arrives home and almost immediately questions Pat and Barbara about Eclipso and also why his file is so apparently dangerous. Pat explains that Eclipso is the devil incarnate. Extremely powerful and utterly remorseless. He was housed in the black diamond by the old JSA never to be found again at least that was the idea. And now with The Shade looking for the diamond and it being in Cindy's possession it's all kicking off in the right way.

Speaking of Cindy she finally begins her recruitment of new ISA members in this episode. She begins with The Fiddler's son who really doesn't show next to any emotion what so ever. Who does show emotion however is Artemis whose strict diet and fitness regime is put to the test as her foster mom shows little to no interest in her and as for her football game she has to go it alone or does she??..we see Mike out delivering papers when he bumps into a familiar face. It's none other than Crusher (Sportsmaster) and Tigress of course. The two take Mike to the Pit Stop and make him call for Pat to come and meet them. Pat makes his way there and is greeted by them both. Turns out they broke out of prison and intend to go and see Artemis play at her football game. They also plan on breaking back into prison which really doesn't make sense as wouldn't the police know they're already after breaking out?? with that being said Pat invites them back to the house until it's game time where they will all go to the game. cheer on Artemis and then go back to prison where they truthfully belong. While Pat and Barbara are busy at the house Courtney meets up with the rest of the JSA members as they try to dig up info on Eclipso. They come across a place called Diablo Island or Devil Island. The place of origin of the black diamond. An explorer once made there but only found dead bodies. This leads to Courtney going to a local house of secrets store which she thinks will lead to her finding even more info. What she finds however is someone lurking in the back of the store..

The episode draws to a close as Courtney meets none other than The Shade himself in the back of the store. He calls Courtney a naive, clueless little girl with no real idea of what Eclipso is truly made of. Not only that but it turns out that Pat lied to her about The Shade killing Dr Midnight. He didn't kill him he is still alive but more on that in a bit. As for Eclipso Courtney thinks a villain team up is on the cards but to be honest The Shade is actually intent on getting the black diamond and tossing it into the deepest, darkest pit of the ocean where nobody will ever find it again. Can he be trusted however is the question here. He soon disappears leaving nothing but even more questions for Courtney. We're soon at the football game where Artemis is playing and at first everything is looking good. She throws an amazing pass which leads to a touchdown. Cindy soon arrives at the football stadium and stands far away from the pitch up in one of the aisle stands. She takes out the black diamond and uses it on Artemis who loses it. Thinking that the police have her parents surrounded in the stands she ends up attacking one of the guards who actually is Courtney who just turned up looking for Pat. Artemis gets pulled away as Courtney is left dumbfounded. Cindy just looks on and laughs as Eclipso again causes nothing but destruction. The episode ends back with Beth as her goggles again begin to work. They tell her that it is Dr Midnight. The original Dr Midnight. Like I said earlier The Shade didn't kill him instead he is trapped inside of a world totally engulfed by shadows and that's where the episode ends. A ton of answers but even more questions are left out in the open as this season of Stargirl is heating up with each episode with no signs of slowing down. This was great. No surprises there really as this show just puts out great episode after great episode with amazing character moments and development. I once again look forward to next week!
