Legends Of Tomorrow 6x15 : The Fungus Amongus review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
The season finale of Legends of Tomorrow's sixth season has come and gone and with it we had to say goodbye to two legends and an ending that may have just literally blown season 7 wide open. The episode begins aboard the waverider where we see that Mick is actually okay after the explosion from last week. He's charred up but other than that he is okay and his babies are okay also. We learn that the Legends are stranded in 1925 Texas thanks to Bishop who not only has taken Gideon offline but he also ups and takes Kayla's ship. Back aboard the main deck room and Zari informs everyone that John Constantine is dead. Not believing what they're hearing the Legends question this but it is true. Zari even gives Behrad the last remaining remnants of the Fountain of Imperium which is now just a mushroom. Behrad takes it and examines it later coming to the conclusion that they need to eat it as Constantine resides inside and is calling out to them all. With that being said we're soon shown Spooner who after last week is in pretty bad shape at her home with her mom by her side. She can still feel an Alien presence however and as it turns out Aliens are close as Sara, Ava and Nate come across a group of Alien scouts that have been sent to scout the area. The Legends get the better of them but before one of the Aliens dies they push a button which basically signals for more to come and invade the entire area.
We finally get to learn of Bishop's true end goal in this episode. He wants to recreate Earth and be the only person remaining alongside Sara. Sort of like a Adam and Eve 2.0, Sara of course s against this and vows along with the others to stop Bishop from achieving his goal. But what can they do?? well a time napping is in order as Nate suggests that they travel through time thanks to some old Time Bureau technology and him and Ava travel to Vancouver 2212 where we see a young Bishop working on the very first version of Ava which he calls Ava Prime. The reason Nate and Ava are here however is for this young version of Bishop to help in restoring the Fountain of Imperium. Given that modern Bishop created a poison to destroy it they think this version of Bishop can create an antidote. He actually does manage to create an antidote and injects it into Spooner who immediately wakes up. She can no longer feel Aliens however which is not exactly ideal. Back on the waverider once more and we see Sara give in and take a piece from the mushroom. Upon consuming a piece she now can hear Constantine calling out to her. She is soon warped into an open field where Constantine is present. He tells her what he done was unforgivable and that he had everything but still wanted more. He urges her to not follow his mistakes and mentions that love is incredibly important and also that the Legends are all connected which is very important a bit later.
The episode draws to a close back in Texas 1925. With no real plan in place and time running out Sara who is still sort of under the influence of the mushroom asks Ava to marry her right there and then. With a mere 4 hours until darkness falls can they whip up a wedding in such a short span of time? well it's worth a shot as we get a montage of various wedding preparations. A Legends style wedding is soon taking place as Gary walks Ava down the aisle as Mick walks Sara. Kayla is present at the wedding too as her and Mick's babies are soon to hatch. Both Sara and Ava say their wedding vows as Behrad sings a love ballad. It's a fitting wedding for Sara and Ava's whose relationship has gone from strength to strength on this show since when they first met back in season 3. With vows having been said things take a turn for the worst. It's a DC / CW wedding, of course it wasn't going to end well. Bishop shows up in Kayla's ship and unleashes an army of his Alien monsters on the Legends who once they see the sheer amount of Aliens present retreat into Spooner's home. Inside they fight off the Aliens as much as they can but it becomes overbearing quickly enough. In all of the madness Sara and Ava never did get to say ''I do'' which leads to a Legends huddle to quickly say I do as they're soon announced wife and wife. Constantine's words of being connected some come to fruition as Sara and Ava kiss a giant wave of energy forms around them and destroys all the Aliens both in and around the house. Spooner is seen housing her true power from last week also as the Fountain has awoken once more and deemed the human race worthy of protecting. So what of Constantine? we'll find out in just a bit. With the Aliens now gone Bishop himself walks up to the Legends and says he will finish this himself. He will have his plan finished. Well things take a bleak turn for Bishop who ends up getting devoured by the newly hatched Alien babies of Kayla and Mick. They hatch and turn into tiny little Alien balls that all jump onto Bishop and gobble him right up. This was a proper wild moment truth be told. With Bishop gone the world is safe saved by the Legends once again. After some more time passes we have to say goodbye to Mick who informs Sara that he is staying behind to look after his Alien children. 49 Alien children to be exact. With Mick now leaving the show Sara is the last true OG Legend remaining. Sara says a pretty charming line here too saying that 6 years ago who would've thought that she would be captain and be married and Mick would be a parent to Alien kids. Too true Sara too true. As for the final goodbye it's none other than Constantine who gets released by the Fountain of Imperium. He and Zari are seen talking as Constantine apologizes for his actions. He says he needs to walk a new life now and hands over a key to Zari. A key that is surely the key to his house is my guessing. Constantine will also no longer be on this show going forward by actor Matt Ryan will as next season he will play and entirely new character created for this show so that should be interesting. But with everything being said this is Legends of Tomorrow it doesn't just end there right?? where's the big twist ending leading into next season?? well it's here and it's a proper bait and switch as the show's logo flashes on screen signalling that the episode is over but seconds later it vanishes as we see the Legends walking towards the waverider. In an instant a beam of light flashes another waverider flies in drops a bomb on the waverider we know blowing it up in the process. WTF?! was that the Legends of the future basically stranding the Legends of the current time in place?? we'll find out in season 7 and thankfully we won't exactly have to wait long as season 7 will premiere in 5 weeks on October 13th. So yeah that was the season finale. A proper trip and a half. Not the best finale as season 3's finale is still my favorite but this was a fun time. With an ending that literally blew my mind and a new narrative going forward season 7 has some serious potential to be truly epic.
And there you have it. Legends of Tomorrow season 6. A truly wild ride full of Aliens, chaos, new characters and farewells. This season of Legends promised to be wild beforehand and I think it delivered. Not every episode was amazing here but it did feature two episodes that rank incredibly highly in my all time favorite Legends episodes. As for new characters we got Esperanza Cruz (Spooner) who really came into her own the past 2 episodes. She was strong, fierce and added so much to this show. As for Constantine I feel like he was the standout of this season. His story arc was really well done for the most part from his relationship with Zari to his slow descent into madness I thoroughly enjoyed his story as Matt Ryan once again absolutely nailed it as John Constantine. I have to also mention Bishop who as far as main villains go just didn't really do it for me. He wasn't all that interesting and his mystique sort of faded away once he was seemingly destroyed within the first number of episodes. He wasn't horrible just needlessly over the top at times when you needed a more serious vibe and antagonist. As for the Alien concept of the season I did like it even if some episodes were like bad parodies while others were just so absurd it hurt the overall story in my opinion. So that was season 6 of Legends of Tomorrow a season of many ups and downs but more ups in my opinion. Some truly fantastic episodes were in here with some great narratives and arcs as a whole. I now look forward to season 7 which will premiere in only a mere 5 weeks which is the shortest ever time in between seasons for this show so that's pretty exciting. Thanks for a wild ride Legends I will see you in season 7!
