Superman & Lois 1x15 : Last Sons of Krypton review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
The finale of Superman and Lois's final season has come and gone and with it we got a lot of changes and a very interesting direction heading into next season. The episode starts where last weeks ended as Superman is seen continuing the search for his son Jordan. Jordan who has seemingly been eradicated by Tal-Rho. With Zeta-Rho now inside of Jordan can Superman truly save not just his son but all of Smallville?? Things start kicking into motion pretty quickly as we see an angry group of concerned citizens confronting General Lane and the D.O.D who even though Edge was stopped in Metropolis last week the D.O.D are still very much present in Smallville. General Lane reassures them that everything is under control when in reality everything is pretty much crumbling and falling apart. Not only is he injured but show is Johnathan and Lois is emotionally distressed over what's happened to Jordan. Takes then take a turn for the worst as Morgan Edge arrives and is seen floating above the people. He unleashes his eradication powers and turns some of the D.O.D's best soldiers into Kryptonians but not just any regular Kryptonians these are members of the Defense Council of Krypton. As all of this is going on Superman ends up finding Jordan who is still clinging to life. As soon as Superman arrives however things take a darker turn as father and son end up coming to blows. It's because of Zeta-Rho inside of Jordan which he says is a perfect vessel. A battle ensues like I mentioned but it's not very long as Jordan soon flies off as the news of Krypton's Defense Council being brought to life is pleasant news indeed.
Back on the ground and Superman along with John Henry Irons, Lois and Johnathan along with General Lane come up with a plan. With help from Lana and Kyle who help with a evacuation order Superman and Steel agree to work together and stop Tal-Rho with solar flare weapons which includes Steel's hammer which when at full charged is powerful enough to stop Tal-Rho. Only problem is Superman needs to get to and then hold Tal-Rho in position as Steels needs to hit his target dead on and with only one shot at it it's make or break. Lois on the other hand goes with Johnathan back to the Kent Farm after Superman retrieves Jordan's prone body. Lois's plan is to enter Jordan's memories much like she did to Clark a few episodes back. Once inside Zeta-Rho will know of what's going on and will surely come for her. Jordan and Johnathan will be on hand to help her and thus both plans get in motion.
The episode draws to a close as firstly Lois is seen inside of Jordan's mind attempting to help him overcome the darkness and stop Zeta-Rho. As cocky and arrogant as ever Zeta-Rho says that Lois will never find her son but she disagrees. She actually does end up finding Jordan deep in the recesses of his mind. She tells him that he is strong, very strong and maybe even the strongest of them all. Jordan (not surprising really) overcomes his ordeal and breaks the chains of Zeta-Rho just as Superman and Steel are seen putting their plan into motion. With Steel high above the earth Superman can be seen charging at Tal-Rho who is unleashing an abundance of energy all to bring Krypton back and have a family. With Tal-Rho in his clutches Superman signals Steel to throw his hammer which is now fully powered. The hammer is thrown and it's a direct hit on Tal-Rho. The entire surrounding area gets destroyed as the force of the blast stops Tal-Rho right in his tracks. It's all over as he says that all he wanted was a family. Superman refutes by saying that he had one in him and that's it, or is it? well it is for Tal-Rho but things aren't looking good for Steel whose power has been completely depleted. He is seen inside of his mech suit with tears streaming down his face. I truly thought he wasn't going to make it here as soon enough he is seen plummeting to earth. But Superman flys in and saves him landing back on the ground. Wow what a rush. But the episode isn't over yet there's still a bit to go over. Some time passes and everyone is seen attending a BBQ / party. Kyle is seen presenting some food to Lois who he now seems to be getting along with. I haven't said much about Kyle but I feel like he has been one of the most underrated characters on this show. He went from a**hole to a genuinely likable guy who just wants the best for his family. That is just fantastic character writing and development. As for John Henry Irons who is also at the party he is seen with General Lane who announces that he is stepping down from his position to focus on his family and what's most important to him. John Henry Irons has other plans that include finally going to meet his sister. Lois who wanted him to stay around takes his word and wishes him well. Speaking of Lois she ends up getting enough money together to buy half of the Smallville Gazette much to the complete delight of her boss and co-worker who had planned on selling the business up. The episode ends back at Kent Farm as after a trip to the Fortress of Solitude we see that Clark has gathered pieces of a crystal that house his father Jor-El. At the Kent Farm the boys and Lois are present when Kal-El buries his father in the ground under a tree. A speech follows and it's pretty emotional stuff really. Soon after things seem to be all calm but of course it's the season finale it's got to end on some sort of cliffhanger right?? while Lois and Clark are talking to John Henry Irons his AI tells of an approaching pod that is headed straight for the Kent Farm. They all rush outside as a pod crashes into the ground. As the door opens it's revealed to be none other than John Henry Iron's daughter inside who has seemingly traveled time and space to find her father. The final words spoken this season are that of his daughter who says ''Mom'' when she sees Lois. Oh this could be either trouble for the family or something else. Either way season 2 just got blown wide open. And that was the season finale. A fitting end to an amazing season as a whole. This was Superman done right and easily ranks incredibly high as one of my favorite Arrowverse / CW DC shows. Immense. Powerful. Highly engaging. Until season 2 Lois & Clark.
So that was the first season of Superman & Lois. It did start off a tad slow but once it got going boy did it get going. Everything from the cast to the action and the reveals of not only Morgan Edge actually being Tal-Rho but the fact that we at first that the stranger who arrived in the pilot was a different version of Lex Luthor was just fantastic. Of course there was even more twists and turns as it was actually John Henry Irons also known as Steel all along. This was a Superman story done the right way. It was risky and bold to change some mythos and characters but I think they really made it work here. 15 episodes was just right also as this should be the standard for all seasons of all DC shows going forward. I can't praise this season enough and now really look forward to season 2 which will premiere in early 2022.
