Legends Of Tomorrow 6x14 : There Will Be Brood review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

The penultimate episode of Legends of Tomorrow's sixth season has come and gone and boy on boy this was something special that's for sure. Our journey this week immediately takes off where last weeks ended as Zari arrives back at Constantines house. What she finds isn't the Constantine she knows rather the dark magic infused mirror version of Constantine that has tossed the John Constantine she knows to the side. Zari begins to question John about what's been happening which leads into all the other Legends turning up asking about Bishop and how he took Mick's communication device to contact Constantine knowing that he isn't exactly in the right frame of mind. With all of that being said Zari goes to touch Constantine but her hand goes through him. Of course this is all just an astral projection as really Constantine is board the waverider with Bishop discussing their plan. A plan that entails the Fountain of Imperium and the destruction of Earth. Pretty cliche villain stuff but by the time the episode ends it's not only heartbreaking but pretty surreal. With Constantine and Bishop about to take off through time to find the original source of the Fountain of Imperium we see that two stowaways are on board the ship in Spooner and Astra. They end up getting taken through time along with Constantine and Bishop and when they arrive they all leave the ship.

1925 Texas. That is the time and place where they've landed and almost immediately Spooner notices a woman who is seen treating the injured and wounded workers of the town. A town that is ruled by a business man intent on hovering up all of the land in the surrounding area. He is seen asking the healer woman to buy her land but this is where Spooner and Astra come in. What follows is a pretty big revelation when it comes to Spooner as this woman turns out to be her mother. Her mother that Spooner lost to alien abduction at a young age or did she?? as what soon follows is revelation after revelation as we meet a young Esperanza Cruz (Spooner) with things in motion in 1925 Texas we see everyone else back at Constantine's house basically stranded with no way to go back in time. That is unless Gary and Mick can contact Kayla so that they can use her ship to travel back in time. After all both Kayla and Mick's Alien babies are on board the waverider being kept safe until ready to hatch. They contact Kayla through an Alien like social media and it's not long before they're on her ship looking for the waverider. Back in 1925 Texas and Constantine along with Bishop finally make it to the location marked where the Fountain of Imperium is located. When they arrive they only see mushrooms. Lots and lots of mushrooms. Mushrooms are Aliens says Bishop who takes some samples as Constantine hears someone off in the distance. This someone off in the distance is none other than a young Esperanza Cruz (Spooner) who is picking medical herbs for her mom. Young Esperanza stands up pretty well to Constantine who ends up sweet talking her to the point where she gives him a flower. When they're hands touch however Constantine sees Esperanza's future and what is to follow between her and her mom. It's not long before Constantine is at Esperanza's family home which just so happens to be where Astra and the grown up Spooner are also residing.

The episode draws to a close at the house where Constantine who are again sweet talking Esperanza and her mom uses his magic to knock everyone out expect for Spooner. He shows Spooner what really happens to her mom and how she was brought to the future. Spooner's mom wasn't abducted by Aliens she was actually murdered by the group of men and their leader who earlier wanted her land. The young Esperanza manages to get away and as her blood is spilled onto the ground where the Fountain of Imperium is located she is protected and sheltered by it which led to her current life. Constantine needs Spooner's blood to unlock the Fountain and after she gives it up she vows to Astra that she will stay and protect her mom. It's actually her mom who manages to talk Spooner out of her plan or at least half of it as young Esperanza still goes to the Fountain as Spooner stays behind with her mom as the men arrive. Astra takes Esperanza to the Fountain's location which is where Constantine also is. He has been given a serum by Bishop which he promises will lead to him being deemed worthy of being able to take from the Fountain. What follows is an explosion of narrative as young Esperanza ends up entering the Fountain like she was supposed to which will lead to her becoming what she is now in the present day. Back on the waverider after finding their eggs Kayla and Mick rescue them from a deadly trap by Bishop but after leaving one egg behind Mick goes to try and rescue it but gets caught in the surrounding blast from a bomb. Is he dead?? as for Constantine things take a dark turn for him as the serum he was given and soon injected with turns out to deem him worthy of taking from the Fountain but Bishop also infused it with some poison. A poison that is deadly and slowly begins to break him down but not just him the Fountain of Imperium also which now fully bloomed turned out to be a giant mushroom of Alien like proportions. But before Constantine's fate is decided we see Spooner once more with her mom confronting the men outside her home. Spooner's hand begins to glow a bright almost golden like color as her younger self enters the Fountain. She uses this newfound power to show the men what it feels like to feel lonely, empty and the reality of what comes with it. The men all soon rush up leaving Spooner and her mom outside of their home. Spooner has saved her mom and her younger self all in one fell swoop. But things also take a dark turn for her as she soon falls to the ground as when Constantine injected himself with the poison serum he not only doomed himself but also the Fountain of Imperium. So technically Esperanza never entered the Fountain or at least not for long enough for time and history to cement itself. Is Spooner dead now?? I highly doubt it but it's an interesting twist to take. As for Constantine the poison begins to take over him as he falls to the ground just as Astra arrives. The two share a equal part heart warming and heart breaking moment. It all started with Astra for Constantine as he says she is his greatest failure and biggest success. He soon fades away but before he does he is incased in a cocoon of sorts that pretty much means he is now one with the Fountain. Zari and the others arrive just as he leaves the Earth and that's how the episode ends. Wow. That's all I can say. What an amazing episode in every single way. Everything from character development and narrative was on point. John Constantine's fate was set in stone but that didn't make it any less emotional. As for Spooner I now have a newfound love her for her character as a whole which is just great. One episode now remains this season and I don't know how they're going to follow this but I'm sure much like all other season finales of this show it will be wild and crazy with a strong handing thread heading into season 7. Roll on next week!
