Freaky review

From the director of the wonderfully bizarre and highly enjoyable Happy Death Day and it's sequel comes a new slice of horror comedy in Freaky. Starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton Freaky is a body swapper, a slasher and a comedy all rolled into one. The story centers around a serial killer who targets kids during their homecoming dance every year. When that time rolls around once again and more killings take place we're introduced to our protagonist in Mille played by Kathryn Newton. She's not very popular in school and doesn't really interact with many people expect two of her best friends. Her home life is complicated with her mom being a bit of a drunk and her older sister a police officer.

The main gist of Freaky is a body swap type movie like I mentioned but there's such a unique twist to it here that just really works. First off is Vince Vaughn who not only plays the serial killer known as the butcher but when his spirit is transferred into Mille via a magical Spanish dagger he has to play a high schooler and he does it in such really fun ways. Everything from his demeanor to the way he speaks and runs changes and it is very enjoyable in and will break out the laughs. As for Kathryn Netwon she goes from shy timid high school student to confident, sexy and intense. It's all played really well and the pace is fast and frantic.

Freaky is cliche sure but there is more than enough here to entertain. The death scenes are varied and outrageous. The comedy moments hit every single time and overall this is a body swap that cuts deep. If you like horror comedy then I highly recommend Freaky be worth your time.
