The Flash 7x14 : Rayo de Luz review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
After last weeks truly terrible episode can The Flash bounce back or will it just continue to sink further and further into the pit of darkness?? the episode begins as we see a returning Ultraviolet attacking her cousin Alegra. It almost immediately cuts to the intro as we see everyone at Star Labs. Barry informs them that he and Iris won't be around for a while as they're still trying to have a baby. Frost won't be around either as she is still off hunting down escaped metas. This leaves Chester, Alegra and Caitlin as the remaining members of Team Flash. This also leads into a pretty heavy Team Flash style episode which is not necessarily a bad thing right off the bat. We're soon at Jitters where we see Alegra meeting with Chester who is intent on getting her to join his game Dungeon and Dragons. They end up getting interrupted by Ultraviolet who after some digging by Alegra is found to be on a mission to assassinate people in various cities and her next target just so happens to be in Central City. A fight breaks out between the cousins who speak in Spanish with subtitles show so people not skilled in that language can understand. The battle gets a bit chaotic but it's eventually stopped when Sue shows up again and essentially saves Alegra and Chester who without The Flash are really out of their depth.
Back at Star Labs and Alegra tells everyone that she is intent on redeeming her cousin even though she is very much a killer. We also learn that Ultraviolet has been hunting the very doctor that made her what she is in the first place. A surgeon working for Black Hole previous he was the one who gave her the powers of ultra violet light and even the scars which she hides with the mask she wears. Sue and Alegra manage to get her to Star Labs's containment cell where it looks like she will actually work with them to stop the doctor from hurting anyone else. Of course Sue is against this given that Ultraviolet tried to kill them all earlier but she is family to Alegra and family does come into the picture a bit later as the importance of it is strongly focused on.
The episode draws to a close as predictably Ultraviolet goes it alone to assassinate the doctor whose name is Doctor Olsen. She manages to get close to him but just gets captured once again. He has one last procedure in mind but his entire plan gets interrupted by Alegra who along with some truly creative help from Chester manages to save her cousin. Chester's plan is put together at Star Labs where he uses the yin tattoo of Alegra to find the frequency of the yang tattoo that Ultraviolet has as a sort of beacon that when combined with their powers will get the location of where Ultraviolet is being kept and experimented on. Alegra and her cousin end up fighting again but Alegra overpowers Ultraviolet unleashing her true power which easily defeats her cousin. Alegra glows with a strong force of light and energy that could be very interesting to see be developed going forward. Back at Star Labs and Alegra finally agrees to join Chester's game just as Barry arrives back in the building. He asks what happened to which they both say nothing and the episode ends right there. A lot more happened here too like Kristen Kramer's past being unveiled a bit more as Joe continues to get to the bottom of it all. It all ends with Kramer asking Joe to help her on a case of her own which he accepts. So that too holds some promise going forward. This was such a better episode than last week however. It flowed a lot better and didn't really feature any silly or over the top narrative choices and moments. Alegra was great here finally being able to get her character developed a lot more which I did appreciate. Still not the biggest fan of her and Chester as a proposed 'item' but we'll see how that goes. And yeah that was the episode, zero Flash content but I did enjoy what was on offer here a lot more than I thought I would have going in to be honest. Next week begins the Godspeed story arc which I have been waiting for since the abysmal Forces story arc ended. Here's hoping it's actually good eh?!
