The Flash 7x13 : Masquerade review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Boy oh boy has The Flash been an unsteady ship this season and once again this episode just did not do anything really special for me. It begins soon after last weeks ended with Cecil who seems normal talking to Joe. He mentions that Kristen Kramer has already become CCPD Captain since he left a few weeks ago. Just how much pull has she? Cecil is pretty much unfazed by everything for the majority of this episode and that is because this isn't Cecil. The real Cecil is inside of a white insane asylum like room crying out for help. So just who is this person? and what was up with the mask we saw last week?? I said my piece in last weeks ending and I was right it is infact the Psycho Pirate but more on that in a bit. Back at Star Labs and we see Chester attempting to revive and redecorate Cisco's lab and other rooms. He runs into Barry and Iris who were having sex much to Chester's shock and somewhat disgust. Barry confesses that they're infact trying to have a child which is surely going to happen before the season ends I reckon. Barry ends up getting a call from Cecil which only leads to Barry now also slipping into the same room that Cecil is inside of. We learn that this is a Hospital located in Texas which Cecil was once a patient in. She was in there after the death of her mother broke her mentally. She was too focused on her work and pretty much neglected her mom to the point where she died alone. Barry comforts Cecil while also trying to find a way out but it's no use for the time being.
Once again back at Star Labs and Chester calls in some help in the form of Sue after the team learns that Psycho Pirate's mask is about to go on display at Central City museum the following day. With Sue's help they end up breaking into the Museum but of course things don't go to plan as Cecil (Psycho Pirate) gets the mask and tells that Cecil is no longer there and soon enough neither will Barry as the power imbued in the mask will continue to grow and grow. Sue ends up blaming Chester for the plan which he barely even fact checked and went over which Sue really did have a point about. This leads to Chester deeming himself not worthy to carry on from Cisco. Iris ends up comforting him and if you're sensing a pattern here it's because you are. Motivational speeches are a common thing in this show nowadays but this episode had so much of them that it just got so incredibly tiresome to the point where I just couldn't wait for it to be over which is not something you want from any show.
The episode draws to a close as Cecil predictably breaks her seal on her mind and along with Barry manage to escape the prison in her mind just in time to stop Psycho Pirate who was about to use The Thinker's! chair to strength the bond between Cecil's vessel and the mask. With the mask now in ARGUS custody surely we'll never see it again? I say this because it really didn't even need to be here this was a filler episode if ever I saw it and it just wasn't all that good or interesting either. The episode ends back at Joe's place as him and Cecil talk about the whole ordeal. Joe soon mentions that Kristen Kramer had previously led a team in her command and control into an ambush which only she survived. This leads Joe to believe that she is working with the enemy and that's where the episode ends. I can only say I was relieved at this point. This episode was a lot of things. It was frustrating, it was long winded and it was so overly cliche full of motivational speeches and cringe worthy dialogue and moments. If it seems like I didn't write much here it's because well I didn't even want to write this review. The Flash is becoming more and more of a chore to watch which is such a shame as such a time existed where I couldn't wait for this show each week. Long gone are those times replaced with a shell of a show that is barely breathing right now in my opinion. I can only hope the upcoming Godspeed story arc and 150th episode can bring back some form of originality and enjoyment? I won't hold my breath!
