Superman & Lois 1x9 : Loyal Subjekts review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Superman and Lois has been on quite the roll lately. Not only is it consistently good but it offers up so much in terms of characters and narrative reveals. And this episode plays strongly against those aspects once again. The episode begins as we see Lois talking about and going over her case information against Morgan Edge. She manages to rope in Clark who really hasn't been doing much reporter wise this season apart from the pilot episode. Lois knows more information thanks to Lana who has been deep albeit maybe a little too deep into the entire investigation. Lana's friend Emily who had just gotten a place working for Morgan Edge. As she begins her job she gets the opportunity of a lifetime from Morgan Edge. To better herself and become the absolute best version of herself. All she's got to do is follow Edge's orders. And she does so following them all the way to becoming a super powered version of herself. We see her strapped to a bed like structure which leads her inside of a tunnel much like an MRI scan. So it seems John Herny Iron's prophecy of what to come is indeed true given that Edge is creating a Kryptonite powered army of his own that if Superman succumbs to will be able to absolutely destroy the universe.

While we see Clark helping Lois it's not long before he has to don the cape as he hears screams and panic in the distance. This distance is quite far away however as we see Superman fly to Mexico City where a bank robbery is taking place. Superman bursts through the front doors and takes out one of the robbers. Something is off however as when he gets shot by regular bullets Superman bruises which shouldn't be happening. We don't see the bruises till later back at the Kent Farm home but inside of the bank it actually is looking bad for Superman for a moment. He ends up getting knocked to the ground but it's not long before he regains his strength and defeats the bank robbers getting warm praise and applause from the citizens inside of the bank who were being held hostage. Back at the Kent farm and we see the bruises on the body of Superman that I mentioned earlier. This is side effects of the experimental kryptonite based weapons that affected Superman last week at the DEO R&D lab. Weapons that were never supposed to get out into the open but they do and they've affected not only Superman but Jordan also..

The episode draws to a close at Smallville High school where Jordan is again helping Sarah prepare for her singing moment later in the day. He begins to get chills and feel cold at first but soon sneezes into his elbow unleashing a strong almost crystal like substance. Turns out it's not only a virus brought on from the kryptonite affects to Superman but it's also his ice breath powers surfacing. He runs off home leaving Sarah to go it alone but she does end up getting help from her dad and Lana in nailing the audition in front of the school. Back at home with his condition only worsening Clark decides to bring Jordan to the Fortress where we learn that Jordan's lungs are filling with fluid rather quickly and unless the Kryptonite inside of him is remove he may very well die. The process of removing Kryptonite is extremely painful however as Jordan goes through plenty of pain and effort as lasers are pointed and beamed onto him extracting the Kryptonite. Back at home and with Lois and Jordan away still Lois and Johnathan are left alone. Lois gets a call from Lana who tells her that Emily has been acting strange lately. A knock on the door is soon heard and it is Emily and another man. Sent there to eliminate Lois they unleash their heat vision in the kitchen as Lois and Johnathan scramble and run to the barn. Johnathan finds some weapons buried under a floorboard which he uses on Emily and the other man. Kyle Cushing soon arrives but all is not as it may seem as not only is he also super powered he attempts to kill both Johnathan and Lois. Superman ends up arriving just in the nick of time as everyone who was in the barn is now gone nowhere to be found. So Morgan Edge sent out his super powered army to kill Lois as he learns that not only is she getting info from Lana but she is getting far too close to exposing him and what he is actually doing. But Morgan Edge isn't all he may seem as this episode ends on a giant WTF! moment. We see Superman fly and land in the middle of a giant open area. Morgan Edge can be seen in the distance wearing a black cape. Much like that of the black Superman style he reveals to Superman that he too landed on this planet and that he is his brother. I told you this was a WTF moment. But is he really Kal-El's brother in blood? or did he mean it is a Krypton brother in arms?? right now nobody knows but man what a way to end the episode this was. As for the episode as a whole it was tightly written once again and highly enjoyable. Not as good as last week as a whole but this is still such an incredible show from beginning to end. I say it a lot but it really is the best CW/DC show currently on the air. I once more look forward to next week!
