Legends Of Tomorrow 6x6 : Bishop's Gambit review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
After last weeks season best episode can Legends Of Tomorrow continue it's rich vein of form this season that so far has only seen 1 real bad episode. The episode begins with Sara and Bishop whom the former thought she had killed last week. Well it turns out he is actually cannot be truly killed. He is infact a clone. One of many that he himself managed to create and code. So which he time he dies he is replaced with a clone that houses the very same memories and ideals that he carries. It leads to one question however and that is where is the original Bishop? is he dead? or did he even exist in the first place?? he again asks Sara to join his cause but again she refutes. Leaving her behind in the room we shall return later but moving forward we're show Constantine's house in present day that is just rife with Legends. Nate is playing guitar, Ava is trying to hook Gideon up to an old school receiver and Spooner is playing darts on the fridge door. Constantine who having just seemingly waken up is driven mad by all of this and can't get get a flaming cup of tea to himself in the midst of it all. He soon gets calmed down by Zari who promises him a proper English style breakfast as they two go out of shot. At the end of episode 4 we saw that Mick and Kayla who was an Alien had taken the waverider for themselves and were going to scout out the planet Sara was taken to in hopes of A) Getting a fuel source so that Kayla can get her ship up and running again and B) which is most important : find Sara. Well this week they arrive on said planet with those intentions in mind. Mick wanders off on his own at the beginning and gets captured by Ava clones. What Kayla doesn't notice however is that they're being watched by someone. Someone who ends up stealing the waverider leaving them stranded on the planet with no way of getting off other than finding the Alien ship and powering it up.
Back at Constantine's place as the Legends discover that someone has checked into a Sanitarium in 1956. With reports of a massacre taking place can this person really be Sara?? Nate and Ava go to investigate pretending to be siblings of Sara. What they find is not what they expected as this person is none other than Amelia Earheart who last we saw was attacking both Sara and Gary back on the Alien planet. Amelia is infact an Alien herself or at least half Alien fused which we find out a bit later when Astra taps into her mind and discovers plenty of things just swimming around in there. This person is infact Amelia Earheart but she was plucked right out of time and space much like Sara was. We even see glimpses of Amelia being experimented on by what looked like Bishop himself. As Astra continues to poke around inside of her mind she soon is forced to release her grip as Amelia transforms into the Alien creature that before we had only really seen glimpses of. She goes full on Alien mode here but does manage to get locked up for the time being. Back with Sara and Gary returns to try and save her. Having crawled around in the sewer pipes thanks to his skin / body that is super flexible he comes into Sara's room via the toilet and tells her of his plan to get her out and get a fuel cell much like what Mick and Kayla are doing. Sara tells him she has another plan though and it involves Bishop and getting out herself and eventually meeting up with Gary. And meet with Bishop Sara does as she calls upon him in a unique way. A term of speech that involves the signing of words it's entirely bizarre but it works for the Bishop character who is really just not at all there truth be told. Sara really hams it up here and tells Bishop that she has changed her mind and is ready to join his cause. You'd think he would cop onto the sudden and really over the top change of heart and perspective but nevertheless he makes arrangements to have dinner with Sara with new beginnings being a key role going forward.
The episode draws to a close back with the Legends as Nick and Ava find the waverider in 1956. Turns out it was Amelia Earheart who was watching Mick and Kayla earlier and evidently made off with the waverider. With the ship now back in Legends possession where it belongs Spooner begins hearing the Alien on board calling out to her. Spooner even communicates with the Alien via a weird type of scream and growl with subtitles displayed below her. The Alien tells her that Sara Lance is dead, killed by her but wait what?? a fight breaks out which isn't looking good for Spooner as she had left her weapon outside via a request from the Alien. She ends up getting saved by Ava who blasts the Alien killing it almost instantly. Spooner tells Ava what the Alien said about Sara being dead which leads to Ava breaking down right there and then in front of Spooner and a trying to be comforting Zari. The episode ends back with Sara and Bishop. Before they have their dinner together however Bishop learns that Mick Rory has been trespassing on his planet. He tells his main Ava clone to let down the barriers around the planet which in doing so will suffocate anyone and anything within minutes. Mick ends up getting help from Kayla and in return he helps her as the two get a fuel source but soon get outnumbered by Aliens as they go into a pod on the broken down ship. Bishop thinks Mick is out of the picture and tells Sara this just as they're about to eat. He really should've thought through his words more carefully though as Sara loses it almost instantly thinking that her friend is infact dead even though we know he isn't. Sara begins attacking Bishop again even though really it's all just a waste of time as we learn that not only can he not feel any real pain we also see his clone chamber with a fresh Bishop inside just waiting to be let loose. The episode ends on one giant big reveal and honestly while not shocking it did catch me off guard. Bishop mentions to Sara that even though he can't feel any real pain he can bruise and get cuts. Where are Sara's cuts and bruises?? why is she so clean?? well Sara literally lips the veil (sheet) on the situation and reveals that the real Sara Lance is infact like the Alien said back on the waverider dead! full of marks and bruises Sara looks as cold as ice as this version of Sara which is most definitely a clone looks on in shock and horror. My thinking is that Sara has been dead since the end of episode 2 or maybe the beginning of season 3 at a push. She died after the Alien infection in her took over and took her life. What could it all mean though?? and what will Ava do when she finds out the truth?? we'll find out soon I'm sure but this was such a great way to end the episode. A episode that wasn't nearly as enjoyable as last week but it did feel extremely good narrative wise especially the Sara and Bishop moments. This is definitely an episode that needs to be rewatched to take it all in again. That being said it wasn't a perfect episode but it's one that was more fascinating that anything else. I can't wait to see how this plays out going forward!
