Batwoman 2x16 : Rebirth review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

The third last episode of Batwoman season 2 was most definitely an interesting episode full of great moments and some not so great moments. The episode begins with a man running for his life. He is being targeted by as assassin wielding two swords. He ends up getting stabbed and killed, Batwoman soon shows up and fights off the assassin but just who is it? and what do they want? at the end of last weeks episode we saw Luke Fox awaken from his injuries in the hospital after being given the desert rose miracle cure by Ryan. We see Ryan attempt to talk to Luke this week and he is just really not there at all. The lack of emotion on his face tells a thousand words as he quite frankly blanks Ryan almost. At the end of last weeks episode we saw Alice tell Jacob Kane that Kate is infact alive. Not believing her at first he much believes her now as Kate ends up getting drugged and taken by Alice to a secure location where they do a DNA test and it's a perfect match for Kate Kane. Her memory is still in pieces however which is a big roadblock still to be overcome. But more on this later.

Back to Luke Fox now and having been near death he begins to live life on the edge this week as he goes to a Poker Club which is housed by many Crow agents and other various criminals and members of authority alike. Luke ends up meeting agent Tavaroff the man who shot him inside of the club. Turns out he has been let off on bail pending a trial but it's likely he'll just get off with the crime. You can't see it right away but this only fuels the fire under Luke even harder. He is soon visited at the bar by a very familiar face. For those who watched Arrow over the years none other than John Diggle shows up and begins talking to Luke. It was so good to see Dig back as not only was he one of the best Arrow characters but he was and still is one of the biggest and best Arrowverse characters period. It's not long before the poker game takes place with Dig even joining in. Sensing a grudge between players almost right away it's clear that Dig knows something is up. Luke ends up winning the poker game much to Tavaroff's disgust and anguish. A fight breaks out in the alley behind the club where Dig is on hand to make the save for Luke. He talks about the great Lucius Fox and how Luke is now the one to bring the whole Fox legacy forward however he may do it. The two actually really played well off one another here and it was just great to watch. Luke soon gets a signal of morse code from the bat signal which flickers in the night sky of Gotham asking for his help. Dig wishes him all the best as he goes off to help Batwoman and co.

The episode draws to a close with Kate Kane, Jacob and Alice. We see that Alice is trying to restore Kate's memory. She uses various photos and other sorts of objects. It begins to spark something in Kate's mind as she begins to remember her younger self. We see young Kate stuck inside of the same basement Beth was inside of. It's basically the embodiment of Kate and Circe (Black Masks daughter) minds fighting to take control of one another. With time passing by Kate manages to make her escape from the secure location and ends up getting found by none other than Batwoman herself who almost knocks her down in the batmobile. She is brought back to Wayne Enterprises where she meets Mary but she doesn't know who she is. She does know who Sophie is though as the two embrace. Kate's mind begins to slowly descent into that of Circe's once again however and she begins to lash out. Mary injects her with a sedative which knocks her out for the time being at least. The team have a bigger problem on their hand however and that is of Safiyah who is back in Gotham seeking revenge on Alice for destroying not only her island but also the Desert Rose which was growing there. Alice ends up getting taken by Safiyah and the masked assassin from earlier who just so happens to be none other Tatiana who is the second in command to Safiyah. Tasked with getting Alice and killing Ocean in cold blood she achieves her tasks which devastates Alice as later she does find Ocean dead with a sword wound on his chest / abdomen area. So just what happens next and how does Alice get away from Safiyah? well Ryan does how some Desert Rose at the bat-cave so perhaps a trade is in order?? Ryan is not just willing to give the rose which is the last thing she has to remember her adoptive mom by. She does end up giving the rose to Safiyah who gives her Alice in return. Just why did Ryan even go to all this trouble to save Alice? well that is because she needs her to unlock Kate Kane's mind and restore her to her former self. Speaking of Kate Kane she escapes once again this time ending up at Black Mask's home. Inside she begins to question Roman Sionis asking him about the visions and memories of Kate Kane in his mind. He assures her that she is only having an episode but she loses it again this time stabbing Roman in the hand. Safiyah soon shows up as the episode ends right there and then with Safiyah and Kate finally meeting face to face this season. This was a great episode in all honesty. Wallis Day as this new version of Kate Kane is as good as it gets when it comes to recasting of a character. She just has enough of the mannerisms Ruby Rose had downpath which is very nice. Luke Fox however was the main star here as his journey to becoming the vigilante known as Batwing begun here ever so slowly. With only 2 episodes left this season just how will it all end?? and will we maybe see Kate suit up again? we'll find out soon in what are sure to be action packed episodes.
