Supergirl 6x7 : Fear Knot review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Supergirl's mid season finale has come and gone and with it we got a super rescue and a glimpse into everyone's fears. The episode begins inside of The Phantom Zone where Kara is reunited with her father. She says that the part of the Phantom Zone they're in has become unstable thanks to the anchor holding everything in place being destroyed. Kara mentions that they should catch onto a Phantom and ride it through another portal but it's not long before she gets overwhelmed by a Phantom and slumps down with her eyes going a cool blue color. This is the last we see of Kara and her father until the closing moments of the episode. Back at the tower Brainy and Nia return from the past as they're told they were gone 3 days in real time. In that time it's given the team the much needed time to develop a weapon that will deal massive damage to the Phantoms but also help Supergirl regain her strength. It's basically a sun bomb that Lena was heavily involved in making. With everything now in place operation save Supergirl can get underway and the team get into position in the tower and set a course.

2 hours. 2 hours is all they have to get in, get out and rescue Supergirl. Once they pass initial turbulence J'onn takes it upon himself to tell everyone that he is going to go it alone inside the Phantom Zone. The less inside the better opportunity of actually getting Kara out. Alex doesn't agree with J'onn's plan and heavily protests even going as far as to lock him inside of a containment cell on the ship. The same containment cell that was housing Phantoms but now is empty with a Phantom somewhere on board. Somewhere on board just so happens to be by Alex as she gets hit by a Phantom which only leads to more problems. Various Phantom's outside of the ship sense her location and immediately begin drawing towards her. Alex blames herself for everything that just happened and tries to make amends. She goes to an airlock and says that she is going to draw the Phantom's away from them so they can get closer to Supergirl. It is at this point when we're taken 10 minutes back into the past just before J'onn laid out his plan. This actually happens on multiple occasions throughout this episode as everyone faces their greatest fears. But how is that possible? more on that a bit later.

The episode draws to a close as we experience Lena, Nia, Brainy and Kelly's greatest fears which range from a giant water like monster that kills everyone on the ship to Kelly's nightmare of losing Alex and not being able to get her back. Brainy even falls out of the ship's hull as Nia fails to save him. Now you might think this is all well and good but truthfully it really didn't work for me at all. I was so lost and bewildered midway through the episode. I was expecting a grand rescue mission given it's the mid season finale not a giant fear based episode that felt so illogical and out of place. This could've been any other episode really. With that being said J'onn is the one who stops the fear inducing power from seeping into the ship and it's coming from a Phantom down below in the containment area. When he puts the Phantom back into the cell everyone is restored to a normal state as a signal for Supergirl just so happens to come into range. This is where we see Supergirl and her father but this time things are looking a light brighter and no that isn't just a bad pun. A giant beam of sunlight engulfs the area destroying Phantoms that were closing in. Supergirl flies up to the ship with her father and embraces Alex right away. Supergirl is back where she belongs as we see the ship speeding off to safety as the area behind them explodes. The episode doesn't end there but with one more big plot point and it is that the ship has a stowaway. It's none other than the fifth dimensional imp Nyxl who was apparently dead and buried but nope she is alive and well as is now seemingly being brought right to where she wants to go. She will surely be the villain for the second half of this final season as after this episode the show goes on a long hiatus until August 24th. Superman & Lois will return in it's place until it finishes it's first season. As for this episode I really didn't enjoy this one. The whole greatest fear aspect did nothing for me and made me feel so confused at points. Getting Kara back was the best part as the Phantom Zone was becoming more and more boring truthfully. This show will now return on August 24th like I mentioned with 12 or so episodes until finally it ends. Hopefully it can start that backhalf of the season strongly and continue even stronger.
