Supergirl 6x6 : Prom Again! review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
In the conclusion to last week's episode can this follow up be as good and enjoyable as it's successor? beginning where we last saw our hero's which was about to be captured by Naxim Tork. Inside of an energy bubble Brainy and Dreamer attempt to break loose but fail on all occasions. It's not long before young Kara comes to their rescue. They get the upper hand on the alien and along with his companion are forced back on their ship left in disguise until the time comes when space and time can be realigned as Brainy states. With Naxim Tork no longer a problem the focus can go solely on getting Kara's DNA / blood from the impact of a meteor that is heading straight on towards Midvale High School. Oh but only if things were that easy. As you see when dealing with Naxim little did everyone know that Cat Grant was filming everything that was going on via a drone. Not only did she catch Kara but also Brainy, Nia and Naxim Tork. We see her delighted with herself as this is truly going to be a breakthrough for her if she gets it all reported about. She sets off to do so but her story doesn't end here. More on her in a bit. Back to Kara and after Brainy and Nia leave stating that they're going home Kara attends her high school prom with Kenny. Upon entering the building Kara and Kenny meet and share a sweet moment together. Alas it's all cut short as right on cue a meteor is seen heading straight for Midvale High School. Kara flies off and punches the meteor shattering it into tiny pieces which fall slowly to the ground. Little does Kara know however that the meteor is filled with Kryptonite which immediately floors her and she falls straight down to ground level landing in the school. Everyone rushes to her including Brainy and Nia who state that the meteor shower delayed their flight takeoff. Kara is filled with Kryptonite and is weakened heavily as she is taken by Alex and Nia to what looks like the janitor's room.
Kara is the least of Brainy and Nia's worry as right at that moment we see Cat Grant again. Having just seemingly seen a meteor be punched out of the air Cat Grant attempts to find more info on the aliens that she recorded along with Kara and the others earlier. She begins to throw things randomly into the air and soon enough she ends up hitting the disguised ship of Naxim Tork. Cat lets the alien loose without truly knowing his true purpose. She is brought aboard his ship as the chase for his most prized possession a Kryptonian begins once again. He soon sets his sights on Midvale High School issuing a warning out to everyone inside stating that he wants the Kryptonian. Kara is in no shape to be even moving much let alone going aboard an alien ship so Kenny steps up and states that he is the alien as he immediately gets beamed aboard the ship. Onboard he meets Cat Grant and gets sussed out as a human. He basically becomes the bait that Naxim needs going forward. Brainy and Nia agree to go and stop Naxim and in doing so get Kenny back. They leave Kara behind even though she is more than game to tag along but Nia uses some Dreamer magic on her which knocks her out. Alex stays behind with her as Nia and Brainy are soon aboard the ship. Aboard they meet Cat Grant whom Nia immediately links to being the real problem as the Cat is the Pink Cougar she has been seeing in her dreams. Cat is the person who could still undo everything with the footage and info she has collected on Kara and everyone else. If things couldn't get any worse Kara soon shows up on the ship and accidentally lets loose prisoners on the ship. By doing so she is exposed as soon the ship is surrounded by police officers and the like. Things are looking pretty bleak for our young hero at this point. Brainy and Nia still on board the ship set a new plan in motion. A plan that entails that they go back in time once again but this time to 5 hours previous to just moments before Cat Grant got her footage. Kara who is getting handcuffed uses her super hearing and hears of the plan constructed by Nia and Brainy. They head back in time and upon arrival are greeted by Kara who managed to sneak on board before they left.
The episode draws to a close as Brainy and Nia arrive 5 hours in the past. Kara tagging along complicates matters to an extent but they manage to stop Cat Grant from getting the footage she had secured in the other time and in doing so Nia basically pushes Cat Grant to become the media god we've known since season 1. You see before this she was only known as CJ and was working for Perry White at the Daily Planet. Nia pushes Cat to become Cat Grant Cat.Co World Media icon and we see her draw a design of a cougar which signals the Pink Cougar in Nia's vision. With Cat Grant no longer an issues and Naxim Tork in the rear view mirror Kara gets to go to her prom again but this time tells Kenny that she has decided to leave for National City University. The two share an emotional moment which was really well done. This is surely the last time we'll see Izabela Vidovic as a younger Kara and if that is to be then I can only say thank you to her. If she is somehow reading this then I just want to say its been a joy to watch you bring Kara Zor El / Danvers to life in such a unique, bubbly and bright way. Along with Olivia Nikkanen as a young Alex Danvers I would be regress to ask for better casting of our younger hero's. It's also worth noting just how accurate they were to their older counterparts in terms of mannerisms and stuff it's just all delightful. Thank you once more. The episode ends back on board Brainy's ship. With everything in order and ready to go both Brainy and Nia are now extremely hopeful of finding and getting Supergirl back and out of the Phantom Zone. That will begin next week in what is already the show's mid-season finale as Superman & Lois will return the following week as this show takes it's hiatus. This was another great episode. Wonderfully acted, a lot of fun and just an absolute pleasure to go back and see these characters once again from a younger age. This was the perfect follow up to last week's episode and finishes off the Midvale arc wonderfully.
