Legends Of Tomorrow 6x3 : The Ex-Factor review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
After last week's rather disappointing and lackluster episode of Legends Of Tomorrow can this week's pick back up the pace once again? the episode begins in Palm Springs 2045 where we see a kid inside a store getting a slushie. He and the owner are soon interrupted by an Alien in a robotic suit. He says that his name is Lord Knoxacrillion and he is here to challenge this planet's king to a death duel. Earth's king just so happens to fall to DJ Smores who just so happens to not only be Zari's ex fiance as we saw last season but he is now the presenter of a big successful show in 2045 named DA Throne. It's basically a singing competition much like The X Factor or American Idol. With this new Alien having killed DJ Smores by the time everyone finds out on the waverider. This leads to Zari, Behrad, Nate and Constantine going to Hollywood 2045 to try and sort everything out and capture this Alien who becomes known as Lord Nox.
In 2045 Zari is basically a superstar even though she has been gone for at least 2 years at this point. Her business is slightly slowing down however as her and Constantine's relationship is truly the vocal point of this episode and by the time it ends there is just so much development it's honestly a lot to take in but in a good way. Upon finding out about her business dwindling she decides to take it upon herself to enter DA Throne and beat Lord Nox and salvage her career by winning the contest. What follow is a string of musical scenarios that are all wonderfully done and choreographed. In the semi-final Zari wins but only just as Lord Nox had previously gotten the golden buzzer that sends someone straight to the final. As someone who is not a fan of reality shows this aspect was rather mundane and boring but once the actual singing and stuff kicked in it was all so much fun. With Zari now in the finals and everyone behind her it's decided that Constantine needs a complete makeover and so Zari's assistant gets to work with everyone else as John is transformed from street magician (Zari's mom's words) to Chris Angel lookalike (John's words) before the final can take place however Zari has an interview with a secondary host of DA Throne and she brings Constantine along. It's made out that the two are happily together with even marriage in their future. Constantine gets pissed off by this and storms off the interview as earlier he had overheard Zari telling her mom that he is just a fling. Could John really be falling hard for her?? once the interview finishes Zari goes to John and the two have a pretty intense conversation which leads to him leaving her behind to sing in the final on her own. Can Zari still win DA Throne?
The episode draws to a close as the final begins with Lord Nox singing a song specifically chosen by DJ Smores which just so happens to be a song that Zari sang before. Seeing a at least 7 foot tall robot singing a ballad is a sight you have to see trust me. Once he finishes up and it's looking good for him Zari steps on stage and after a moment of singing she is joined by Constantine as the two Ever Fallen In Love by The Buzzcocks in what was not only just an incredible moment and scene but the character building through the song was just flawless. They've both fallen in love with someone they shouldn't have fallen in love with as after this things will never be the same for them both. Zari of course wins the competition as Lord Nox bows to her and says that he is now her humble servant. Back on the waverider and Zari calls Constantine her boyfriend in front of everyone. ''I'm absolutely terrified'' ''Me too'' the two walk off as they say those words leaving much to ponder about what their relationship holds next. But wait the episode doesn't end there. It ends with a couple more notes. First we see Lord Nox's real form and it is that of a tiny Alien inside of his head controlling it from a tiny chair. He descends onto the bridge and begins to talk but ultimately gets squashed by Mick who has a name and a drawing (his own) of the Alien named Kayla who it found will lead them straight to Sara. Speaking of Sara she is extremely weak still after last week's attack and begins to hallucinate at first thinking she is seeing Ava right in front of her. Turns out she actually was but oddly enough it's not just one Ava it's a bunch of clones. A bunch of clones that Gary ends up devouring in his Alien form as Sara wonders off on her own. Sara eventually arrives at a house of sorts and is greeted by a man who says that he has been waiting for her to arrive. It ends right there and then but who could this man be?? guess we'll find out soon as overall this was a major step up in quality from last week. It was silly sure but it was serious also with Zari and Constantine's relationship at the forefront. Just a genuinely great episode with many amazing moments.
