Legends Of Tomorrow 6x2 : Meat : The Legends review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
What a difference a week can make. Last week I was singing the praises of this show and while I still do absolutely love boy oh boy I really did not like this episode. It begins aboard the waverider as an alien crashes right onto the ships window going completely SPLAT on the windshield. Instantly killed Mick uses wipers to brush the alien off as Ava gets mad at him. She was keen on extracting the alien and using Spooner to get info on Sara from it but to no avail. It's not long before aliens end up hitting the timeline and our first one is in 1955 California at a burger joint named Big Bang Burger. Upon arrival the legends discover that Big Bang Burger has become an overnight sensation feeding people from the local area so much as we see everyone from locals to police officers grossly chomping down on the burgers. Ava who is still in charge in Sara's absence puts Spooner to work as she uses her power as a signal tracker of sorts as Zari, Behrad and Nate get jobs at Big Bang Burger. Behrad seems himself as a master chef and along with Zari are tasked with making and sending out the burgers to the customers.
At the end of last weeks episode we saw that Gary and Sara's ship was heading straight for a mysterious planet. Here we see them crash into the planet that is heavily coated in a pink like haze. Gary says that they're on his planet where everyone and everything is ruled by a power hungry space lord. Could this be Mongul? or another extremely powerful DC villain from it's lore? whoever it may be Sara and Gary soon end up spotting a dog outside staring right back at them. Sporting a scarf the dog runs off with Sara and Gary not far behind. They are lead to a small hut that just so happens to have someone from history inside. It is Amelia Earheart who while out in her aircraft crash landed on this planet. Her co-pilot left behind with no other explanation given. She invites Sara and Gary inside where they all eat for the time being. Back in 1955 and thanks to some sleuthing and help from Spooner and Gideon on board the waverider the Legends discover that there isn't an alien present instead it's a parasite like goo that is used as Big Bang Burger's secret sauce on the burgers. Upon learning this Zari, Behrad and Nate shut the place down via health code violation but it's not long before the secret sauce takes fold and drives customers insane as we see them break inside and try to get more meat. Honestly this was like a bad creature feature parody that wasn't funny one bit.
The episode draws to a close as Ava goes to visit the wife of Big Bang Burger's owner Burt. He informs everyone that his wife was the one who made the secret sauce complete with a special recipe. This recipe does indeed include the alien goo but it's not exactly just alien goo. As you see when Ava visits the woman everything seems normal but when Ava goes up to the attic she discovers a giant cocoon which houses an alien. The goo that has been used for the secret sauce has been the drippings from the cocoon which when put onto meat drives people made. Burt's Wife is extremely intent on using this to branch out the Big Bang Burger franchise. Ava disagrees stating that it's too dangerous and just as she does the cocoon hatches a giant winged alien inside. And what's the first thing it does? well eat the woman of course as not seconds later it spreads its wings and fly's off into the city. Ava calls ahead to the others as it is nearing the burger place's location. In short the winged alien creature gobbles up Burt but is put down with ease by Spooner and her extremely powerful weapon. Ava wanted to interrogate the alien but that was never truly going to happen. With this crisis averted it's back to the waverider where Ava convinces Spooner to join the Legends full time going forward in a sort of exchange. She helps them find Sara and they help Spooner with the problem in her head. Makes sense I guess. One more important note also happens on the waverider and that is Zari and Behrad each finally get their own totem thanks to Zari of old who snaps her fingers inside of the totem splitting it into two. Could she not have done this last season? either way it's good to finally see both brother and sister equipped with their own totem each. The episode ends back with Sara and Gary who after talking with Amelia Earheart immediately cop on that something isn't quite right. Especially when she repeats the same lines over and over again about flying her plane and her co-pilot. Sara and Gary decide to leave but get caught by Amelia who turns out is also an alien. She gets Sara up against the wall and attacks her seemingly infecting her with something as when they do get free thanks to Gary she has a big mark on her arm. Various flashing lights begin to flood the area at first Gary thinks it's fireflies coming to light their way but it's not so as it looks like someone or something is coming to get them. The episode ends cleverly enough with a view through Sara's eyes as they close shut. And that was that. I really didn't like this episode. Given how much fun last week's episode was this was a disappointment to me. Like I mentioned earlier it was like a bad creature feature parody which is a shame because usually this show nails it's parody's. Sara and Gary's side story was vastly more interesting especially given it's ending. Let's just hope this is just a blip and this season doesn't turn into something truly horrible like that disgusting alien goo.
