Batwoman 2x14 : And Justice for All review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
This week's episode of Batwoman begins right where last weeks ended as we see Alice talking to Kate Kane. Kate Kane who is still oblivious to just who she is. Having fulfilled her end of the bargain made with Roman Sionis to fix Kate's face Alice is given her freedom and leaves although she is very hesitant to do so at first. When she does leave she goes straight away looking for Dr Engima who is the only one capable of restoring Kate's mind or at least attempting to restore it. As we know Snakebite has gone under some modifications lately and the results really come to the forefront in this episode. Not only does this new strain of the drug just drive people crazy but it also turns them into human, flesh eating zombies. Yes a fully blown zombie apocalypse in Gotham City and it's not even Halloween. With chaos in the streets we finally see Ryan and co hosting a fundraiser at the club. Police Officers soon show up and say that they've received a noise complaint. They also say that unless they have a permit that a fundraiser shouldn't be taking place in a bar. They say to either shut it down or pay a 2500 dollar fine along with a mark on their liquor licence. Ryan heavily objects to these claims and demands and although Luke tries to defuse the situation they both end up getting arrested and thrown into a prison cell. Sophie soon joins them in the cell along with another criminal named Eli who protests ''Power to the people'' Eli is extremely important when it comes to this episodes end.
As for Alice she finds Dr Enigma and demands answers. She explains that Kate Kane's mind has been essentially shattered into a million pieces and the only way to fix it is with an object that is distinctly her and a trigger word. So Alice leaves to try and find something belonging to Kate and along the way finds Ocean who has been waiting for her at the train hideout area. Back at Dr Enigma's office and just as she is about to tell Alice the trigger word Ocean snaps her neck killing her. Distraught Alice questions his intentions and he makes some valid points honestly. Kate didn't recognize Alice at first when they met in season 1. She never found her when she was kidnapped all those years ago and she also locked her up in Arkham. So just why help her? well they're twin sisters but is that enough?? Ocean then declares his love for Alice in a strong and powerful scene that was fascinating to watch unfold.
The episode draws to a close as the woman behind the fundraiser who we've previously seen this season manages to get Ryan, Luke and Sophie all out of prison. Sophie who is acting commander in Jacob Kane's absence tasks her Crow agents with defusing the zombie outbreak while Batwoman arms up and thanks to Luke and Mary's help gets a way to stop them. By injecting them with a counter drug one by one. Only problem is she has got to get up close and personal with the zombies to which Batwoman to her credit actually does. As for the Crows Sophie tasked with defusing the situation and helping those affected they blatantly disobey orders and kill various zombies in cold blood inside of a church. A church that has become a proto base or sorts for the zombies. It's not long before Batwoman solves the problem as she goes out for a drink with the woman behind the fundraisers. Could she be moving on from Angelique already??, the episode doesn't end there though rather it ends on a giant WTF moment. We see Luke Fox talking to Mary on the phone. In the distance he spots none other than Eli jacking a car in the middle of the street. He hangs up on Mary stating that he'll handle the situation. He gets some photo evidence at first and then goes to confront Eli who pushes him away. The same Crow agents from earlier show up and as Luke pulls out his phone to present the evidence he captured the main Crow agent thinks it's a gun and shoots Luke three times in cold blood. Luke falls to the ground and is seemingly dead. I told you it was a giant WTF moment. What happens from here?? is Luke truly dead?? unless he was wearing a bulletproof vest I don't see how he could've survived those gunshot wounds. Then again could this all be leading to him becoming his comic book persona Batwing? perhaps. Either way next week can't come soon enough as we're sure to find out what happened to Luke and what will happen in the developing Kate Kane story. We're going to have to wait unfortunately as this show now goes on hiatus for a few weeks and returns on June 6th with new episodes. As for this episode it was fine. To be honest it was rather bland and boring at some points but not bad by any means. Just not as good as last weeks. It had some good themes like fighting racism and social justice and an ending that was genuinely shocking. So yeah overall it wasn't bad just kind of in the middle of the road.
