Supergirl 6x4 : Lost Souls review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Our journey further into the Phantom Zone begins this weeks episode of Supergirl as we see Kara, her Father and the fifth dimensional imp whose name is Nyxly exiting a portal made up of the imp's magical abilities. Upon landing they just so happen to be at the exact location that Supergirl mentioned last week. It is The Anchor and it was built by Kara's mom and inside of it is the way back home to Earth. Back on Earth and we see Miss Martian inside of an almost living nightmare / dream scenario. A scenario that let's her look upon the Prime Phantom's location and true intentions. Upon waking up we learn that even though J'onn fused his soul with hers to bring her back last week. Well turns out although she is okay she is still part Phantom. %18 Phantom to be exact and unless the crystal that houses peoples life forces is destroyed she and everyone else will remain affected. This leads to a team meeting which now includes Lena Luthor who officially joins the team in this episode. She almost immediately makes a device that is similar to a Ghostbusters gun that when used against the Prime Phantom it will suck him right into the device trapping him. It was good to see Lena finally join the team here and going forward I'm sure she will prove invaluable.

Back in the Phantom Zone and inside of The Anchor the way home, back to Earth is through a mirror. Upon inspection the mirror is actually broken, shattered into separate pieces. Kara would be the one to use it but given that it's broken her father seems about to give up. Father and daughter have a talk and come to the conclusion that Kara's mom would have built a second mirror and hid it away. So the search begins for the 2nd mirror. Back on Earth and the mission to stop the Phantom's intensifies as with Dreamer and Miss Martian's help the location of the Crystal housing people's life forces is found. Dreamer has a different dream of her own beforehand though and it is of Kara and Alex in high school years ago in MidVale. Could we be getting a flashback next episode?

The episode draws to a close as back in the Phantom Zone, Supergirl, Nyxly and Mr Zor El find the mirror inside a supply warehouse however while Supergirl tells them to split up not moments later her Father is struck down and badly injured. With no real way to get both him and the mirror back at the same time they're forced to leave him behind for the time being and come back for him when the mirror is up and running. When they do manage to get the mirror up and running Nyxly reveals her true intentions which really wasn't all that surprising. She wants to return to the fifth dimension and get revenge for all who've wrong her but also she plans on having some fun on Earth as it is the gateway to her real home. Kara's naive nature which is really something special and a big character trait of hers is crushed once again as she is betrayed by someone she let in. Not to be made a fool of by Nyxly no more Supergirl ends up destroying the mirror which was also her own way home. So just how can she go home now?? after all this mirror was the backup to the original which was also destroyed. Supergirl's story ends here for the time being as back on Earth Alex and Dreamer strap up and power on to destroy the Crystal that was housing people's life forces. Upon doing so everyone is restored to their natural state including Silas who had become a fully fledged Phantom. As for the Prime Phantom he ends up losing all power and gets sucked into Lena's ghostbuster like device by Brainy. With the Phantoms defeated and Lena playing a key part the focus now turns back to Supergirl and how they are going to rescue her from the Phantom Zone. They eventually come to the conclusion of using the trapped Phantom as a sort of tracker with it's instincts still in tact. They just need some DNA from Kara at peak power levels which all ties into Dreamer's vision of MidVale. The episode finishes up with Nia stating that they need to go back in time and that's exactly what next week's episode entails as Nia and Brainy go back in time to Kara and Alex's high school days. Overall this was a good episode. Probably my favorite since the season premiere. This isn't Supergirl at her absolute best but if the season can keep up this quality we're in for a great and fitting farewell.
