Superman & Lois 1x2 : Heritage review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Superman and Lois returns after it's debut episode last week. The episode begins with Clark, Lois and the boys moving to Smallville which was mentioned at the end of last week. Uprooting and leaving Metropolis to go and live in Smallville is a big deal to Clark especially as he plans on not only ensuring that his family remains safe but that his son Jordan who has inherited his powers is well prepared for what lies ahead for him. Speaking of Jordan he isn't left attend the new school in fear of his powers getting out of control. Johnathan is allowed to go however and ends up having to deal with something that Jordan causes. After kissing Sarah Cushing last week Jordan has already made it difficult for Johnathan in this new school as Sarah's boyfriend and his friends torment Johnathan both on and off the football field which as we known is what Johnathan excels at. As for Jordan he gets to take his very first trip to the Fortress Of Solitude. Clark flies him there and upon arrival Jordan is blown away by everything that he can hear and what he is shown. He learns all about Krypton thanks to a Sun Stone Crystal that is almost like a USB drive. Soon enough we send up meeting none other than Jor-El. Father of Kal-El (Superman) and whom Jordan is named after. He's only there visually of course but Jordan is soon put to test to try and learn just how powerful he really is, because if he is as powerful as his father he may be the key to Kryptonian future.

At the end of last weeks episode we saw that the mysterious figure Superman was fighting was in fact someone named Captain Luthor. Well he returns this week and is on the hunt for Kyrptonite which is a fuel source for his bodysuit that grants him flight and also his ship which he uses to fly to a place called Maldova. Upon arrival he obliterates a group of men who he thinks are guarding Kryptonite but after searching further he cannot find any in the vicinity. Back in Smallville and General Lane arrives at the Kent Farm just as Lois and the boys go to a city council meeting where Morgan Edge is speaking. General Lane learns that Clark told the boys about his secret which he thinks has the ability to tear the family apart. Clark is unconvinced but that's not why General Lane is here. He's here because of the stranger reports in Moldova. We learn here that he has a ship which is actually track able. This is good news surely? and it is for the time being. What's really important going forward is what happens between Lois and Morgan Edge.

The episode draws to a close as Lois goes to the city council meeting with the boys. Upon arrival she meets a girl from the Smallville Gazette who says that she is a big fan of Lois. Morgan Edge soon enters the room and proposes his plan for Smallville. Lois objects to his plan as in the past he promised all kinds of things that weren't fulfilled. Morgan Edge who owns the Daily Planet don't forget promises huge numbers of jobs in Smallville. That's good and all but Lois mentions that he has never fulfilled his promises like I mentioned. Promises like hundreds of jobs for the area. What is failed to be mentioned is how Morgan Edge pays the people working for him below annual living wage which according to Lois is degrading and not what Smallville needs. Lois leaves with the boys and sets off in writing an article on Morgan Edge. An article that once ready to be published gets twisted and bent by Morgan Edge who publishes it in his own name and image basically stealing Lois's thunder completely. Lois has the last laugh at least for now however as the following day she ends up going to The Daily Planet marching right into Morgan Edge's office and handing him a note. It's opened once she leaves and it simply says ''I Quit'' the next time we see Lois is when she goes to the Smallville Gazette where again she meets the girl she met at the city council meeting. Once she finds out that Lois has left The Daily Planet she almost immediately asks her when can she start?! I really did love Lois throughout this episode. It was as comic accurate of a portrayal as you could want. She was strong, determined and constantly chasing the story. I can't wait to see how her vs Morgan Edge is going to play out going forward. The episode has a bit left however and that is we learn that Jordan is infact not at full power at all. At the Fortress Of Solitude Jor-El tells Clark that Jordan's human DNA is interfering with his Kryptonian cells. Jordan of course is left distraught by this and once back at home distances himself once again from his father. Surely there is another twist to come in both boys having powers?? I'm intrigued nevertheless. The episode ends as we see Captain Luthor once more. This time without his helmet and suit which was badly damaged by Superman in a fight scene earlier in the episode. Superman ripped the head off the body suit which turned out to be an AI that Luthor was watching from his base on a screen. The episode ends on a big revelation as we find out why this man hates Superman so much. On his Earth Superman was a stone cold killer complete with Black Suit and everything. Very Elseworlds like in the design. Captain Luthor was actually a soldier in combat and having seen all those close to him perish he vowed to end Superman. And in time he will make this Superman into exactly what his Superman was. What a revelation and what an episode. Much like last week this was just fantastic. Great narrative, grounded in reality and a great Lois Lane story arc. Next week can't get here soon enough!
