Batwoman 2x7 : It's Best You Stop Digging review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Batwoman returns from it's one week break with new episodes and right off the bat there is a ton to talk about and process here. The episode begins in the bat-cave with Ryan whose Kryptonite infused bullet wound is only getting worse and worse. Now much bigger and letting off a smell according to Luke soon enough one of Ryan's eyes turn green which means that the Kryptonite has entered her brain. She soon passes out with little brain function instead her heart being her true purpose and way forward. The main chunk of this episode however consists of Alice's story and how ultimately she became the crazy, demented woman that she is today.  First off there is Safiyah who we know has Kate Kane captured on her island or so she says. Upon getting news of Ocean's demise at the hands of Alice in the last episode Tatiana returns to the show to collect his body and verify what happened so that Alice can go to Coryana. Alice gets the upper hand on her former lady in arms and decides it's time to play a game of memory flashback. A whole manner of things get explained here, firstly there is how Ocean and Beth became close. At first they were just sparring partners each learning one another to fight in hand to hand combat and the like. But as time grew so did the attraction between them which ended up being the downfall of their entire relationship and future on the island. Secondly there is  how Safiyah is pretty much a prisoner of her own island thanks to her birthright which is the Desert Rose and also how she is infact in love with the then Beth now Alice which has only made Tatiana's hatred for Alice stronger. More on this situation however a bit later on.

Back to Ryan now and even though she is basically close to death according to Mary she takes the Bat-mobile while Luke and Mary are talking about her. She speeds off with little to no real direction expect for one which is to kill Alice and avenger her mom. While driving at ferocious speeds I must add Batwoman ends up seeing her mom in the seat next to her and also has a vision of her before her murder. Clearly not herself Batwoman ends up paying a visit to Angelique who just so happens to already be with another woman, the whole situation doesn't even cross Ryan's mind at first but it's not long before she gets the info she needs which is the location Ocean's grow house in the city. Angelique gives Batwoman a head start and pushes her off the apartments balcony where a car is just waiting to break her fall. Luke and Mary soon come to the rescue as Mary drives the Bat-mobile while Luke takes Ryan's body in a van.

The episode draws to a close as more of Alice's past is brought into the limelight. We know her relationship with Ocean was the downfall of her placement within the island and Safiyah's group of women. We also finally learn just how her memory was wiped and in it's place was a seemingly strong obsession with Alice In Wonderland. Upon learning of her and Ocean's plan to take some of the Desert Rose for himself Ocean and Beth are placed in front of Safiyah to be judged. Her decision? to wipe Beth's mind with the help of a hypnotist by name of Enigma no not that Enigma. It's a woman and they do end up wiping Beth's mind. However we learn that in it's place Safiyah has basically made Beth into Alice like I mentioned earlier. But that's not the end of the episode as Batwoman still has it out for Alice who just so happens to be at Ocean's grow house with the man himself. He ends up leaving Alice behind as she is soon off to Coryana to get her ultimate revenge. Her alone time is soon interrupted by Batwoman who starts off by asking Alice does she know who she is. Alice as always just doesn't really care instead finding the situation funny rather than serious. Batwoman ends up actually removing her cowl revealing herself to Alice that she is Ryan Wilder. Again Alice doesn't take it serious at all and the two begin to fight. Alice gets the upper hand at first but soon Ryan takes control finally getting Alice in a choke hold. It is here where Ryan's mum appears before her once more stating that this isn't the woman that she raised. Ryan stops in her tracks and lets Alice go with little to no consequences. Back at the bat-cave and Luke is furious at Ryan for doing this. But Ryan has a plan you see. Before letting Alice go she placed a tracker inside of Alice's boot which as we see Alice leave for Coryana with Tatiana is going to lead the team right to their location also. And that is how the episode ends. This was a really good episode as a whole. Finding out about Alice's backstory and how she became who she is in present day was fascinating stuff. Safiyah's willingness to protect the Desert Rose at all costs was interesting and Ryan's strength and courage to keep going no matter what may be foolish but it is really encouraging. Batwoman has done very little wrong this season thus far in my opinion. Long may it continue!
