Stargirl 1x6 : The Justice Society review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
This week's episode of Stargirl begins at Blue Valley's High School. We're introduced to Artemis Crock who is the so called star player for the school's football team. We see her running and dodging around players as her parents watch on from the stands. As she scores a touchdown Artemis gets confronted by a teammate who questions her true ability. Things quickly turn sour as Artemis punches the guy leading to her being benched by her coach. Later on that night the coach gets confronted by her parents who just so happen to be a part of the Injustice Society. Named Sportsmaster and Tigress they take out the coach as he stands firm on his actions towards their daughter. Soon enough a new coach is in his place at the school as Artemis is once again the star player. At the end of last week's episode we saw that Pat had found all the JSA items Courtney had taken from it's HQ. Pat confronts Courtney in her room after she arrives home from a night out on patrol. Pat tells her that roping people from her school into the JSA vs ISA war was not right and by doing so she has put them all in danger. He orders her to get the stuff back and over the next few days Courtney tries to do so at school.
While Courtney works on getting back Wildcat's outfit and Dr Mid-Nite's goggles from Yolanda and Beth respectively Pat tries to get the Hourglass from Rick Harris. With his father's journal in hand Pat asks Rick for the Hourglass back but he declines. Instead he takes not only the Hourglass but also the the journal belonging to his dad that houses some sort of code that nobody can decipher not even Beth when using Dr Mid-Nite's goggles. Speaking of Beth both her and Yolanda are unwilling to give Courtney back what she gave them. They both state just how much their lives have changed for the better since Courtney made them Wildcat and Dr Mid-Nite respectively. Back at school and as Rick gives the journal to the rest of the gang to figure out Beth gets an alert in her goggles that says that the villain The Gambler is attempting to hack into the Empire Enterprises building. Could this lead to the very first JSA mission??
The episode draws to a close as the JSA's first mission gets underway. All suited up and raring to go especially Rick, Stargirl, Wildcat, Hourman and Dr Mid-Nite arrive outside the building. Inside is indeed The Gambler and he is hacking into the entire building's mainframe. As he gets up to go and search around after hearing some noise our hero's are soon greeted by none other than Sportsmaster & Tigress who are the parents of Artemis Crock. Things don't start off too good for the JSA as Hourman appears to be extremely reckless by instantly charging in and tackling the villainous duo. Wildcat takes on Tigress inside of the building as on the outside Courtney helps Hourman by taking on Sportsmaster. This entire sequence was really well done honestly. It ends with S.T.R.I.P.E showing up to make the save for the JSA as they all retreat. Not knowing whether to fully trust Pat or not the rest of the JSA are skeptical of him to say the least especially so Rick as earlier he had learned that Pat didn't even know his parents were murdered by Solomon Grundy until recently. The episode ends with two final things to discuss. First there is Pat who says that the new JSA members can keep the gear but they desperately need some training as luck can only get you so far especially in this fight against the Injustice Society. Courtney agrees so it looks like we'll be getting some training montages in the near future. The final thing we see is the ISA at their HQ. They all talk about this new JSA and how they could very well likely impact this Project New America Icicle has running. Icicle turns round and says it's time to find and meet these new hero's and that's how the episode ends. The ISA are now on the hunt for the JSA and from here on out this season is going to get a lot more action based I reckon. As for this episode it was another highly enjoyable experience. This show has done very little wrong so far and now that we're just about halfway through it can it keep that momentum going?? I sure hope so.
