The Flash 6x19 : Success Is Assured review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
The Flash's season 6 finale has come and gone and with it we're left with more questions than answers. The episode begins with Eva showing up in full on Mirror gear. She is seen talking with David Singh who says that Success Is Assured. Her plan is coming to fruition and it's only a matter of time before her husband Joseph Carver gets what is coming to him. Next we see Barry who meets up with Nash, Cecil, Alegra and Ralph at his office in CCPD. They're meeting there because Barry says he as a ton of cases to catch up on and he doesn't want to lose his job as well as his speed. A major plot point gets discovered here and it's a diamond that Ralph had previously gotten from Sue Dearbon. A diamond that when UV light is powered onto it reveals a sort of treasure map / symbol that when placed on the Central City map leads to Joseph Carver / Black Hole's major facility which houses all of his black mail on people among various other bad guy stuff. The Flash and Elongated Man go to scope it out where Ralph finds and takes with him all the blackmail on Sue Dearbon. On the inside however is also David Singh who we see pouring gasoline all over the building. The Flash tries to get him to see some sense but it's to no use as he lights the gasoline as the building gets engulfed in flames within seconds. The Flash uses more of his speed to get out with Ralph as back at Star Labs Alegra and Nash listen in.
Back at his office once again and Barry much to everyone else's dismay and anger says he is going to attempt to protect Carver from Eva. He even goes to meet him in full blown CCPD getup. Carver completely bluffs his way through the conversation trying to play it like he doesn't know anything about his wife being still alive and the blackmail he has on people. In short he dismisses Barry's help but after going home he soon learns that infact he is in trouble and so are those assassins who work for him. Soon enough Carver shows up at Barry's office asking for his help in dealing with Eva. They're all at CCPD when David Singh arrives asking Barry to hand him over to him in return for Iris's safe return. Barry seems to actually be considering the deal which Nash doesn't take well at all especially more so when Harry Wells appears to him stating that the Barry Allen he knows wouldn't hesitate on something like that. In the blink of an eye Nash uses some sort of smoke tech to get them all out of CCPD and back to Star Labs. Carver suggests buying the tech which was funny to be honest. What's not funny is the fact that McCulloch Technologies appears to be the only place where everyone can stay safe thanks to a force field that when powered up won't allow Eva to get inside. Carver also happens to have a panic room completely made out of concrete where he and Barry go as they await for everyone else to evacuate the building.
The episode draws to a close as the force field gets powered up around the building. On the inside nobody remains except the rest of Team Flash. That is however until Ralph spots Sue Dearbon trying to access the elevator. It turns out that she is working for Carver in return for her parents safety. She even drugs Ralph as he gets too close to stopping her. What follows is a battle between The Flash and Eva, shocking revelations and an ending that actually fits perfect as a season ending cliffhanger. What doesn't really fit however is the conclusion to Eva's story but more on that in just a bit. With the entire building on high alert now and everyone battling the assassins in the main hallway Eva makes her way through the TV in Carver's panic room. The Flash soon arrives just as Eva is about to impale Carver with mirror shards from the mirror that she destroyed in the room where Iris was taken hostage by her. Just as she flings the shards she doesn't end up hitting Carver but instead The Flash impaling him with shards. She does end up getting to Carver however by pushing the shards through The Flash and one goes right into Carvers chest which kills him but not before he can say that this version of Eva is not the woman he married. She has changed thanks to the mirror verse which is in fact true as earlier he had mentioned to Barry that the longer a person stays in the mirror verse the worse it affects their mind warping and contorting it into something totally different. With Carver now dead Eva tells The Flash that it is over by he says that he and his team will stop at nothing to put an end to her. Back at CCPD and Eva gives a speech at a press conference where she says that she was held hostage for 6 years by an organization whom not only took her tech but was forcefully holding her against her will. She also says that her husband Joseph Carver tried everything in his power to save her but ultimately once they were reunited he was taken from her and murdered in cold blood. But by who? well she's going to figure that out as starting immediately she is taking her position back as McCulloch Technologies CEO. Back at Barry's office not only does Joe arrive back in the land of the living due to Carver's death but also we see Iris in the mirror verse. Her mind being more and more warped just like Carver said it would. What's not expected however is that when she begins to assert control over the tech in the room she disappears completely out of the room vanishing right in an instant. To be continued flashes on the screen and that's how the episode ends. We will now have to wait until season 7 to find out what happened to Iris and what will happen with Eva and just how Team Flash will be able to defeat her. This episode was good. For a finale however it wasn't that good. It seemed more like a set up to a season finale which I'm sure was the original plan or something along those lines. It's understandable however due to the ongoing worldwide pandemic and the fact that they weren't able to fully film the rest of the season. It ended on a cliffhanger which was interesting and in a way it was nice to see the big bad win for once.
So. Just how was season 6 overall?? definitely a step up in quality from season 5. Bloodwork being the big bad of the first half of the season was great at times with others just turning into a B style horror movie. There was some truly great episodes pre Crisis On Infinite Earths however. Speaking of Crisis the giant crossover came and went and it changed the entire Arrowverse forever. The Flash didn't really change in terms of narrative or anything but it was nice knowing that now everyone was on one Earth. The rest of the season heavily focused on Eva and her mirror verse powers and identity. It was a different approach for the most part and something I did enjoy. Ragdoll, Sunshine and more turning up were also good although one or two episodes did feel a bit filler mainly the Amunet episode. As a whole though season 6 was quite enjoyable. It had it's ups and downs but what season doesn't?? The Flash losing his speed has become so cliche at this point however. Here's hoping that artificial speedforce gets made quickly into season 7. Congrats on a good season Team Flash. See you in season 7
