Supergirl 5x13 : It's a Super Life review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

100 episodes of Supergirl. Can you believe it? a milestone for any show to reach and with this the 100th episode of Supergirl we may have just gotten the very best episode this season. It begins where last week's ended with Mr Mxyzptlk showing up at Kara and Alex's door. Turns out that he is reformed now and has been travelling throughout time and space to right all those he done wrong. He even gives Kara a way of getting rid of him if needs be. What is he going to help Kara with?? well the thing that she's been struggling with all season and that's the choice she made by not telling Lena Luthor that she was Supergirl long before she found out thanks to Lex. So mainly this is like A Wonderful Life hence the title. It's a throwback episode that features a lot cameos, old moments and memorable events. Kara and Mr Mxyzptlk get to work but only can do it alone. He sends J'onn and Alex to their happy place which just so happens to be a game of paintball which was funny. The first stop on this journey through time to tell Lena the truth before everything goes pear shaped?? it's the beginning of season 4 where Kara helped Lena and Eve fight off Mercy Graves attack. Kara tells Lena in her office before the whole ordeal happens stunning her in the process. Kara races off to deal with the situation leaving Lena on her own. When she returns Lena is not there instead she goes to visit Sam in Metropolis. Yes the same Sam that was Reign the World Killer in season 3. Kara watches on from her apartment as Lena talks to Sam about Kara's revelation. This is the wrong time in history however as soon the whole sky gets lit up by Kryptonite. This is the night in time where Agent Liberty along with Otis and Mercy Graves unleashed Kryptonite into the air to kill Supergirl. In the original time Lena ends up saving Supergirl by putting her in a protected suit but in this new reality she does nothing to help which leads to the death of Supergirl. We even see Kara's grave and Alex standing over it with a heavy heart and high emotions. Man talk about a trip and a half so far.

The next time Kara travels to way back in season 3 the night the World Killer's attacked. It's again no use as Lena doesn't aid the team again. Mon-El returns soon after this as Supergirl goes to him for advice on the night where they all faced off against Reign at her adoptive mom's home. Mon-El and Supergirl have a heartfelt moment as he mentions that even if things seem rough now he knows that deep down when she accepts that Kara is Supergirl she will eventually forgive her. But that's the least of their worries now as outside Reign shows up hell bent on destroying them all. She gets shocked from behind by Lena who shows up just in the nick of time. Ultimately however things end bad once again as this time Reigns ends up killing everybody including Mon-El and Lena. It's a total bust for Kara once more as with one final jump into the past she comes up with the perfect time to tell Lena that she is Supergirl. During one of their first meetings after she arrived in National City. Things actually look set to turn out for the absolute best in this reality as when a Luthor and a Super work together the things they accomplish together is pretty incredible. This ranges from exposure, justice for the criminally wronged among other things. Lena ends up getting questioned on Supergirl's real identity but refuses to tell which leads to complications..
The episode draws to a close with the reemergence of Coville and his cult followers from season 3 and an even bigger threat in Ben Lockwood also known as Agent Liberty. He confronts Lena on Supergirl's identity as all his family died worshiping her as some kind of god. Lena once again refuses to reveal her identity but ends up getting kidnapped along with Coville instead. On the news we see a live broadcast from Lockwood who has both Lena and Coville held hostage promising to kill them if Supergirl doesn't reveal herself to the world. Kara who blames herself for her friends getting targeted is left with no real choice but to reveal herself to the world at a Press Conference. She mentions her name is Kara Zor El and she is a Kryptonian before opening to her shirt to reveal her Supergirl symbol. Soon after this she is given the location of Lena and Coville by Lockwood and saves and goes to save them. This reality however is no good now as her identity is present for everyone to see and know. Especially Ben Lockwood who along with his followers ends up murdering all those close to Kara. Cat Grant, J'onn and more all get murdered which leaves Kara with no choice but to go back even further. Things don't go according to plan this time as when transported both Kara and Mr Mxyzptlk are seen standing in a run down, rubble filled National City. Robots named HOPE are in the city hunting down anyone who opposes those who charge. And who is in charge here?? well it's Lena who after almost killed by Lex way back in season 2 disappeared for a long time only to show up years later with Reign and Brainiac-5 as her bodyguards. With every now attempting to aid Supergirl and Mr Mxyzptlk back to their original time they pair off in teams to not only stop Lena and her bodyguards but find some Fifth Dimensional Energy for Mr Mxyzptlk as without it he and Kara are stuck. In summary they find the Hat of the villain of the same name from last season whose hat contains Fifth Dimensional Energy which is exactly what is needed. Mr Mxyzptlk uses the energy to transport both him and Kara back to her apartment where Kara realizes that maybe Lena was supposed to find out the way she did. Every other timeline went increasingly wrong from Lockwood's murder spree to Lena not helping Supergirl which led to her death. She tells Mr Mxyzptlk that he is no longer needed and he leaves to go back to the 1780's of all places. Alex and J'onn soon show up again at Kara's place where one of life's most important lessons is learned. Learning to live with one's mistakes. We all make mistakes whether we like it or not. Kara finally learns this and thanks both Alex and J'onn for always being with her from beginning to now. From the best moments to the worst. They are all now closer than ever as the episode ends and wow what a way to celebrate 100 episodes of Supergirl. This was as perfect of an episode as you can get. It had so many call backs to previous seasons, returning favorites like Mon-El and Reign and most importantly of all it tied together the importance of Kara and Lena's relationship and the lesson of learning to live with one's mistakes. Thank you for 100 episodes of entertainment Supergirl. Here's to another 100! Supergirl now takes a week off and will return March 8th alongside Batwoman. A Super life indeed!
