Bombshell review
Back when the first trailer for Bombshell arrived and Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman and an almost unrecognizable Charlie Theron stepped into a elevator together it was incredible. The tension was palpable and it look genuinely interesting. Fast forward to it's release and while the movie as a whole isn't bad by any means it certainly is underwhelming in places. Performance wise Bombshell is pretty good with performances that range from great in Charlie Theron, to good in Nicole Kidman and not so good in Margot Robbie. It's actually John Lithgow who steals the show here in my opinion as the head honcho of Fox News whose relationships with his employees gets put to the forefront in a second half that is riveting and compelling to watch unfold.
Bombshell is a based on a true story which does it make it easier to both connect with and sympathize with the characters better. The vicious, isolated feeling of being sexual harassed in the workplace is horrific for anyone to go through and you should speak up and that's what this movie is really all about. Each of our three main characters each have their own story to tell and once it gets dropped a whole other can of worms gets busted open. There is a few problems with Bombshell mainly in it's script and pacing. It fluctuates between being a really, really great movie and just a good movie. It tries to be funny sometimes and it just isn't. It's slow to get going but once it does enter it's second act like I said before it's really where it shines and delivers it's best qualities.
Bombshell is an astounding story of women rising against the higher powers above them and is extremely relevant. Performance wise it's good to great but I feel like the best version of the movie didn't quite make it to the big screen this time. It's nothing that drags the movie down to low levels but it is noticeable. It's certainly worth a watch however and is like I say extremely relevant and meaningful.
