Batwoman 1x10 : How Queer Everything Is Today review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Batwoman returns to it's regular storyline after not only it's mid season hiatus but also after the events of Crisis On Infinite Earths and to say things have changed would be an understatement. The episode begins aboard a subway train. Things soon take a turn for the worse as the train begins to pick up speed and shows no sign of slowing down. It passes on people on boards drop off points and keeps going with a voice over saying that they've lost all control over the CPU which controls everything. With people on board freaking out the next thing we see is Batwoman in action on her bat bike heading to the final stop on the train's decent. She stops her bike gets off and uses a hook launching it at the back of the train stopping it just before it collides with a wall. The hook she fired quickly loses grip and fires back at her but a cop saves Batwoman which leads to the entire city shipping them together oddly enough. Back at Wayne Enterprises and we see Kate Kane question exactly that. She is super gay as she states and everyone is going around shipping her and this cop who is called Captain America. Luke tells Kate that everyone thinking she is something else than she actually is, is a good thing and a way of misinformation differs from her true purpose. While Kate has to deal with the media pressing about her sex life Mary is struggling to cope with her mom's death at the hands of Alice in the mid season finale episode. She is sure that Jacob was set up (which he know he was) and sets out to prove her theory thus freeing Jacob from prison where we do actually see him various times throughout the episode.
Kate and Luke begin their investigation onto the train from the beginning of the episode. Kate oversteps with Luke again and takes the investigation into her own hands. She soon finds a device that was being remote controlled by whoever did cause the train to speed up and go completely AWOL. However they and everyone else in Gotham is interrupted by a mysterious talking Terrier emoji who has demands of getting 5 million dollars or they will reveal everyone's dark secrets to the entire world. This includes Batwoman's identity among other high profile secrets and figures. Back at the bat cave Kate and Luke see this hacker's work at hand again as the same emoji is seen over the Mayor as he is giving a speech to Gotham telling everyone to go about their daily lives. He is interrupted and has his entire credit card number placed with this hacker telling everyone to go nuts it's on the Mayor. Luke quickly tells Kate that they need to go completely dark in case of being exposed after doing one more thing agrees to do. While offline a few moments later into the episode Luke comes up with a way to spot the hacker in a crowd of people with the help of an EMP as a high school party is just so happening to take place in the same high school that Kate attended. By isolating the voice waves Luke learns that the voice is of a woman and she will indeed by present at the high school party.
The episode draws to a close as Batwoman arrives at the high school. She is hilariously greeted by various people looking for selfies, videos and more as she looks for the hacker. She finally uses the EMP given to her by Luke. Once again we see her whited out eyes which is seriously a nice touch, it's never done enough in my opinion. The EMP does indeed work and Batwoman soon finds the hacker who turns out to be a young woman named Parker Torres who was actually on board the train at the beginning of the episode. Why did she do it?? well it turns out that she herself is gay and was outed by her ex girlfriend to her parents who have strongly pitted themselves against her not accepting her for being gay. She wanted to be known through her actions which she did succeed in doing so. You can see in Batwoman's eyes that she so wants to tell her that she too is gay but as doing so would out herself Kate lets Parker go. She soon runs into Alice who has plans of her own for Parker and uses her as bait to get Batwoman to come see her. Kate does show up and in summary it looks like she has been outed by Parker as Batwoman on Alice's command. But of course she hasn't, instead Parker uses her hacking skill to send a 911 call sending Sophie and her newly assembled strike team and others to their location where Alice is taken into custody. Batwoman did actually reveal herself to Parker which like The Flash I really don't like. The Flash has revealed himself to people he barely know far too much and Batwoman just reveals herself to someone she was previously hunting down but now connects with all of a sudden? it doesn't really sit well with me. Parker shows up to visit Kate as the episode ends and is greeted with some community service much to her dismay. She also has to refund everyone she took money from which at first she is against but soon agrees, Kate's sexuality finally gets revealed at the end of the episode as she partakes in an interview with none other than Kara Danvers. This leaves Parker incredibly happy as she and many others see the article. The episode ends however with something completely out of left field as Kate returns to her office she is greeted by Alice with dark hair?? that's what she thinks at first but turns out this is actually Beth after she mentions how she's been away for a semester. Kate looks absolutely stunned as it seems like Crisis has impacted much more than first though. What a birthday surprise for Kate indeed. This episode was fantastic. It flowed perfectly had a good message in acceptance and that ending reveal was genuinely shocking. Who knows what could happen going forward. With each episode Batwoman is slowly but surely improving which has been really great to see. Roll on next week.
