1917 review

World War I one of the most awful, brutal and vicious eras of all time. 1917 tells the story of two young men given an impossible mission. Deliver a message deep in enemy territory that will stop 1600 men and one of the soldiers brothers from walking straight into a trap. Around 15 or so mins into 1917 you'll quickly realize that this is unlike any war type movie before. It's continuously shot with the 2 main characters's journey continuing with every single step each getting more and more tense as a lot is really at stake here. If you're going to 1917 for an action fix then you will be sadly disappointed. 1917 is like I said before unlike any war type movie before as it uses it's two main leads to charge forward and you really do feel like you're walking right alongside them.

Director Sam Mendes has crafted a beautiful albeit dreary world here as the war really has taken its toll. Trees chopped down, burning fields, puff of smoke all are now the norm with even animals being slaughtered in the wake of the Germans. Our two main leads are absolutely fantastic making you believe in everything they do and say. And as the movie goes on their performances just get better and better as truly 1917 is a movie about friendship and the bond between friends as much as it is a movie about war.
1917 is destined to be one of the great movies of 2020 and is a must see. It's uplifting, emotional and impactful. It offers little to no action but when it does get going boy does it ever get going. It's visually stunning if that's even possible to say but it really is beautifully shot and crafted. This is one you just must go and see!
