The Flash 6x6 : License to Elongate review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
The Flash returns from it's mini hiatus with an interesting episode to say the least. It begins with everyone in the sewers along with Nash Wells who last we saw said he knows how to save Barry Allen in the impending Crisis. He tells how The Monitor is a 'false god' and that he will be the one to end him. As for how to get past the bricked up wall?? he needs the power of UV waves that can reveal what is behind the bricks that are infused with a special type of energy. His reasoning for how he's going to save Barry pretty much goes unnoticed apart from him stopping The Monitor before the Crisis happens. At CCPD Barry and Joe are talking about Ralph and how Barry wants him to become one of Central City's biggest hero's when The Flash is gone. He's even gotten a new symbol for Ralph that has a EM on it for Elongated Man. Ralph pretty soon enters the scene not wanting to even go to the briefing the following day as he just thinks it's another pointless get together. Joe gives him info on his case that he's been following. Barry manages to get himself into the picture and convinces Ralph to take him with him. Ralph agrees and the next thing we see is the two parked up outside of a giant hotel / Las Vegas type area. Ralph steps out and goes to retrieve their suits. And they are in fact suits. Not their superhero outfits but a regular suits as tonight their human sides will play the part of hero's.
On the inside they notice a VIP area which is only accessed by having a certain trinket. But why is Ralph here anyways?? well he's looking for Sue Dibney who last we saw a few weeks back. Right from the get go inside the building the entire atmosphere changes into a James Bond type scenario with cheap puns (January Galore, ''I expect you to die Mr Dibeny'') are just two examples. Even a martini being shaken and not stirred gets a mention. It's all fine but insanely cheesey especially as the episode goes on. More on Nash Wells for the time being and while at Iris's office Alegra walks in on him. His gauntlet goes off signalling that she is a meta human. In short he ends up asking for her help agrees but not without a bit of pushing. In the sewers again Nash actually lets slip that Barry is The Flash to her which doesn't nearly go as far as it should've in my opinion. Alegra uses her UV powers on the brick wall and manages to reveal something in the wall that Nash seems incredibly interested by. No idea really what it was but him helping Alegra with her powers was a nice touch as Iris and her have barely interacted this season so far. What was behind the wall though?? well we'll soon find out as Nash thinks he is close to something. Back at Ralph's ongoing case and him Barry meet the owner. A man named Remington Meister. He runs the entire building and with the help of a returning Ultraviolet his main task is to sell a weapon that he calls the Ring Of Fire which is a weapon that can fire 15 missiles at the touch of a button to the highest bidder in the building. A building that is choc full of criminals, gangsters and Mafia members. Barry and Ralph's meeting with him doesn't go down so well as they are outed and eventually end up at the barrel of a laser gun. The Flash did his best to help rid the area of the surrounding people but Ultraviolet ends up getting to him while Ralph gets electrocuted by Meister which leads to them facing down the barrel of a laser gun like I mentioned.
The episode draws to a close as Meister returns to the main room where the bidding war for his weapon begins. Flash and Ralph do end up escaping from their chains of course and come up with a plan, one that requires a bit of finesse. As the bidding war goes on we see Barry walk into scene from the side of the room. He's carrying a bottle and appears drunk. On the other side Ralph attempts to shut off the Ring Of Fire. without Meister noticing. Barry hilariously calls Ultraviolet a Mortal Kombat character and even says his favorite part is the ''FINISH HIM'' before a fatality which was hilarious like I said. Barry and Ralph do get the better of the villains and shut off the weapon just in time. The episode ends back at CCPD where The Flash and Joe do swore in Ralph as the next hero of Central City. But Ralph and Joe have a surprise of their own. They announce that Barry Allen is a recipient of the Medal Of Honor for his outstanding service to the city. This was genuine good feeling moment and was a long time coming for Barry. But the episode doesn't even end there. It ends with Ralph who we see giving Iris some new info on a case He is just about to leave but Bloodwork shows up out of nowhere looking nothing like his past self. He says nice press conference before tackling Ralph as the episode cuts to black. This was the worst episode this season. I'm sorry to say but it's true. That's not to say it's really bad because it's not but it is most definitely a tale of two halves. The first half is cheesey beyond belief full of James Bond puns and not so funny jokes. The second half though is funny, feels more like The Flash and has a home run ending. This is the worst episode of season six so far but given that the first 5 have been absolutely stellar I was expecting this kind of episode sooner or later.
