Supergirl 5x7 : Tremors review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
The seventh episode of Supergirl's fifth season begins with Kara and J'onn sparring. The two speak about the ongoing problems in and around the city as they continue fighting one another. Across town we see Lena being interrupted by the same woman from last week who works for Leviathan or at least has some stake in them. She wants the medallion from Lena but Lena isn't so easy to get it off. In fact she downright refuses and tells her that she isn't scared of Leviathan. Back at the DEO and with Brainy still working on a way to locate Riproar we learn that Lex knew about the Fortress Of Solitude and that he never did find it much to his dismay. The other Luthor, Lena's plan to use Supergirl is still in motion and at a park showcase she uses Supergirl as a way to bait Leviathan into action. A man turns up who has the ability to control earth and bend it to his will. He tells Lena that he is here for something that belongs to him and after getting away from him Lena presses her watch to signal Supergirl. What follows is a small battle between Supergirl and this incredibly strong yet strange man. We're soon following him as he heads to what can only be Leviathan's HQ. The woman from earlier turned up and said that Lena is not like anyone else. She is a Luthor, all this happened earlier and is what led to the man attacking Lena. His name is Rama Khan and thanks to Brainy back at the DEO he informs everyone that this man is an Earth-Bender. A myth, a legend. He was seen at various points in history throughout time and was even the cause of one of the biggest Earthquakes in history. He has lived for thousands of years and has transcended both space and time.
Earlier while sparring with Kara J'onn began to get a physichic attack. He thinks it's still linked to memories of his brother and his lingering feelings of guilt. He asks his dad for guidance much like he did after killing Manchester Black. His dad answers the call and reveals to him that his brother is in National City being held by someone. J'onn cannot believe what he is hearing and sets off to try and find his brother however he is unsure if he will send him back to the Phantom Zone or not. At the DEO and after earlier mentioning the Fortress and how Lex knew of it's existence Kara agrees to take Lena there so they can get weapons form the armory which Superman had hidden away so they wouldn't be used against him. At the fortress and Lena is stopped before she can even get in as her Luthor DNA readings are off the charts. Supergirl soon sets the alarm off as the two go deeper inside. Little do they know that Rama Khan is not far behind them. Infact he shows up soon enough just as Supergirl was explaining various Kryptonian artifacts and weapons to Lena. One weapon is Myriad from season 1 which Supergirl's aunt and her husband used to turn everyone in National City into mindless zombies. Of course we all know how that ended. But Supergirl says that weapon is the most dangerous of all and if she could destroy it she would right now. Rama Khan soon arrives and as he is not on Earth but in the Fortress his powers are pretty much useless which allows Supergirl to get the upper hand. Lena even helps by shooting Rama Khan with one of Lex's weapons which she reprogrammed. While Supergirl finishes him off for the time being Lena vanishes. Supergirl finds her again but sees her with Myriad in her hand. This leads to the best scene of the episode as Lena infact reveals her true intentions. She tells Kara how she has been using her this entire time (season) thus far. She tells her that having to hear that her best friend and countless others were lying to her from Lex was absolutely destructive to her. Kara rushes to tell her side but Lena is having none of it. Why didn't she out her at the big press conference at the beginning of this season?? well Lena says that Kara's tears on that very day made her want to make her suffer even longer just so that she could see her flinch and squirm. Lena with Myriad in hand soon leaves the Fortress leaving Supergirl there to wallow in her feelings. This scene was terrific and a true standout this season.
The episode draws to a close with J'onn appearing at Lena's lab where he does indeed see his brother. He sets the Phantom Zone projector aside and asks his brother once more for forgiveness. He even offers him a chance to look into his mind so that he can understand everything that happened. Ma'fael'ak agrees and as peers into his brother's mind he does infact see everything that happened and everything J'onn and their father went through. Upon release the two brothers embrace as the truth is finally let loose. What a feeling and honestly what an episode as it ends on Supergirl who is still in the Fortress of Solitude. It had it's rocky moments but this episode was a really good follow up to last week's season best episode. Rama Khan is interesting and the whole Leviathan story arc is unraveling ever so slowly but I like it a lot. Lena and Kara's relationship is the best thing on this show by far and J'onn finally getting to hug his long lost brother was truly special. Supergirl now like Batwoman goes on a week hiatus and will return December 1st. Until then Kara!
