Batwoman 1x6 : I'll be Judge, I'll be Jury review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
After last week's season best episode can Batwoman continue that momentum as Crisis On Infinite Earths looms ever so closely in the background?? the episode begins with the introduction of the villain of the week and it is none other than The Executioner. A pretty bog standard character who by his name suggests executes his victims in Corporal Punishment ways. The episode starts with his first victim. The assistant to the District Attorney. He kills him by electrocution via electricity and water mixed together. Back at the bat-cave Luke has found the name of the man who we saw last week was holding Beth for many years. His name is August Cartwright. We also learn that Batwoman is now on the GCPD's speed dial which was funny but still not on her dad's or the Crow's. Skip to Alice and we see her adjusting Mouse's new face. He takes on the disguise of someone working for Catherine Hamilton who just so happens to have developed a weapon that can penetrate Batwoman's suit. Alice sends him to Hamilton Dynamics to retrieve it and he does so successfully.
A hostage situation soon follows as The Executioner strikes again this time taking up hostages according to GCPD dispatch. At the location Batwoman gets inside as screams begin to ring out. Sophie follows her and as they get deeper inside they soon realize it's a trap. Multiple guns go off at once, one hitting Sophie who falls to the ground. She says ''Kate'' to Batwoman as she fades out which leaves Batwoman absolutely stunned unable to move. On the outside Crow's and cops surround the area. The Executioner does show up soon after in a car driving Batwoman to the other side of the room. Why is he there? to steal something for his next execution which is a form of gas that he will use to kill his victim from the inside out. Chris Medlock also known as The Fist is a name that keeps coming up in Luke Fox's research. He was held in custody and had something against the assistant DA who was killed at the beginning of the episode, could he be The Executioner?? Kate is unconvinced however especially after locating evidence that proves that someone else is The Executioner and in some sick twisted way he is only acting out as the corruption inside the justice system is completely rotten to the core. With his final plan in place Batwoman who drops Sophie off at Mary's little hospital rushes to his next location with The Crow's not far behind.
The episode draws to a close at the location of The Executioner's final plan. His methods thus far have all included Corporal Punishment methods like the electric chair. It's all been planned greatly and for a one off villain he was pretty good. Not good however is the fight between him and Batwoman which ends just as soon as it begins with Jacob being the one who ends up killing him. Not knowing however that he just set off The Executioner's heart rate monitor which also acts as a deadman switch which lets the gas inside the room him and Batwoman are in. Father and daughter end up actually fighting one another with time quickly running out. Luke comes up with a plan in the nick of time (because he does that) and tells Kate to ignite the fumes when the room is fully enclosed in the deadly gas. And she does but not before Jacob admits his defeat with Beth and why he hates Batman so much. He blames Batman for his daughter's death sure but ultimately it's his own fault as he gave us searching for her. Batwoman ignite the room and uses her cape to shield both Jacob and herself before leaving to catch her breath. Back at The Crow's main office Jacob and Kate share an emotional moment together as we see Sophie leave Mary's care. She refused to tell Mary who Batwoman is but it's only a matter of time before she spills the beans. With The Executioner dead the episode ends with Alice and Mouse once more whose relationship shifted and molded into something new in this episode. Mouse seems extremely envious of Alice and Kate's relationship as it looks like he wants Alice all to himself. He calms down however when Alice mentions she has a very special tea party planned for her sister and that they can both share her. Ending there this episode was nowhere near as good as last week but it was still perfectly acceptable. The Executioner was a good one off villain. Mouse and Alice's plan is beginning to fall into place and Sophie knows Kate is Batwoman. There's a lot simmering right now and hopefully soon it will explode.
