Zombieland : Double Tap review
It's been just about 10 years since the first Zombieland movie released and at the time I loved it a lot. To this day I watch it every Spooky season and when they first announced this sequel I got to admit I was a bit skeptical. Is there really a need for this?? would it be destroy the first movie's uniqueness?? well there is 2 answers to those and questions and they are no and no. Zombieland Double Tap follows on from the first movie. Tallahassee, Columbus, Little Rock and Wichita all return. The movie begins with them finding a new home in the heartlands of America. The White House! everything seems to be going well for the little family. Wichita and Columbus are dating and have been for a while. Tallahassee is content with his car the beast and Little Rock?? well her rebellious side really begins to break through and she tires quickly of Tallahassee's constant force to protect her. Columbus only goes and drives the knife further in by proposing to Wichita who along with Little Rock up and leave hitting the road. They pick up a traveler who in turn along with Little Rock up and leave Wichita with nothing else but to head back to the White House. Along the way we meet a new character in Madison some new and improved zombies and even dopplegangers of our two leads. It's all simple but it's so effect and carries on perfectly from where the first movie ended.
Onto performances and right off the bat you can see that the chemistry from the first movie is still here. The banter between Jesse Eisenberg's Columbus and Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee never gets old and is a joy to watch. Emma Stone's more straight laced Wichita is also great throughout again as she is pretty much the voice of reasons in the group. Abigail Breslin's Little Rock isn't featured as much but when she's on screen she plays her part really well. Special mention though must go to Zoey Deutch who plays newcomer Madison. After being abandoned by Little Rock and Wichita Columbus stumble upon the fun loving slightly dim witted Madison in a run down mall. What follows is a roller coaster of a relationship for Columbus and some truly hilarious scenes. Remember back in the original Zombieland when Bill Murray made a cameo that turned out to be one of the greatest cameo's of anything ever?? well make sure to stay after the movie ends that's all I'm going to say..trust me it's just brilliant.
Zombieland : Double Tap is a sequel that follow on from the original so well. It's fast paced witty and offers just enough to make it truly feel like a worthy sequel. The cast are fantastic especially Deutch. Columbus's set of rules are live saving and overall this is such a fun ride that will leave you grinning from ear to ear. As a stern fan of the original Zombieland I'm so thankful to say that this was a worthy follow up, I just hope we won't have to wait until 2029 until Zombieland 3.
