Good Boys review
At first glance Good Boys is just your regular run of the mill comedy about three young kids growing up and discovering life, and to an extent that is true here but there is a lot more here than meets the eye. Starring Jacob Tremblay, Keith L. Williams and Brady Noon as three sixth graders who decide to ditch school one day. Little known to them however they are carrying drugs from Tremblay's character's next door neighbor. While flying his dad's drone around it crash lands into her garden and she and her friend take the drone to show that women deserve more respect. Of course things don't end well for entire party as Noon's character ends up stealing one of the girl's bag which just so happens to have drugs inside. The three best friends hatch up a plan to trade the drugs back for the drone which is very important to Max (Tremblay)'s father as he needs it for work. Needless to say though things get a little bit hairy as the gang encounter a cop, a dislocated shoulder, major traffic problems and even drug dealers.
Good Boys is a typical coming of age story at it's core but it's really elevated to new heights not just by a tight and hilarious script but by it's performances. All are great here but Keith L. Williams just steals every single scene he is in. Judging on this movie alone I'm pretty sure he is going to have a fantastic career in comedy / acting if he decides to pursue it further. Jacob Tremblay and Brady Noon round up the Bean Bag Boys as they are known and the connection they all share on screen is genuinely a joy to watch. It does suffer from some pacing issues though that leads to the movie starting off a big sluggish. But once 20 minutes past it's all plain sailing as the rest is balls to the wall comedy perfection at points.
This is not one for the younger audience as there is plenty of swear words used and sex becomes a heavy subject at times. It's a movie about kids made for adults and that's a bit of an odd concept sure but it's done really well and respectfully throughout. The performances are great, the comedy is on point and Good Boys is certainly one of the better comedies this years. It has plenty of life lessons and a nice, warm overall message.Long live the Bean Bag Boys!
