Legends Of Tomorrow 4x14 : Nip / Stuck review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Finally an episode that since it returned from it's mid season hiatus that feels like a proper Legends Of Tomorrow episode. Beginning in the Ice Age times at the Donner Pass we see Ray and Constantine. Neron who has fully taken over Ray puts a knife to his hand and throat. He says it's amazing what he could do with just the cut of one artery. He says the reason he's brought Constantine out here is because he wants him to use his magic and open a door to hell so that Tabitha who has been mentioned a couple of times now can make her way to Earth. Seconds before this Constantine had used his magic to stop Neron from slitting Ray's throat and just by doing that he tips the Legends off to his whereabouts. 1 million years in the past at the Donner Pass. Of course this is all just a further point in Neron's plan as Constantine begs with Sara to blow them both to kingdom come. Tasked with an incredibly difficult decision it's Mick who ends up yelling out 'FIRE', Neron then uses the time stone to warp out of there with Constantine as the waverider fires causing an avalanche. The waverider is then seen hurdling down a mountain as ice and snow block them 3 thousand feet down among the ground. Armed with little pickaxes Sara, Mick and Charlie who all are wearing Leonard Snart inspired coats get to work on trying to break the ice surrounding the exits. But it's no use as instead a giant argument breaks out between Mick and Sara. Sara ends up blaming Mick for what happened and leaves it to himself to break free. Back inside of the captain's office and Charlie while impersonating Mick attempts to apologize to Sara. Of course Sara sees through it and the real Mick walks in. Soon after this Sara goes a bit mental and asks Gideon to turn on the power, on the heat and ram up the music. It's party time on the waverider.
As all of that is happening Neron and Constantine end up in a Celtic Village during 55 B.C.E thanks to the time stone. Why did Neron bring Constantine here?? well because as the camera pans out to reveal a man walking into the village surrounded by people and a cage with a shroud over it. Turns out this is King Constantine the ancestor to the Constantine that we know. He is the reason Constantine has magic abilities as a sense as he banishes anything magical and demonic straight to hell. Constantine even confronts him and the King thinks him a magical imposter and deceiver. He is placed along side the creature that was in the cage earlier being brought into the camp. Neron is all carefully watching this from the sidelines. And as the creature and Constantine are about to be sent to hell Constantine uses his magic to disband the king's own magic and leave the portal to hell open. Constantine along with the power of the king's sword then battles it out with Neron who is still in Ray's body don't forget. And as the two have a sword battle it looks like Constantine is about to kill Neron but the Legends show up in the nick of time. Turns out the party they were having on the inside caused the heat in the ship to melt the surrounding ice leaving them free to escape. Bit of a silly way for them to escape honestly but that's not the major thing that happens. The major things that happens is Constantine who says Ray is not dead and if he has to go save him himself he will. He steps behind the portal to hell and just falls in as we see him screaming burning completely burning out. A proper WTF. But it doesn't end there as pretty soon after Tabitha arrives on Earth and it is the Fairy Godmother of all people. Neron and her make out which is something I didn't need to see and head to the Time Bureau. Constantine sacrificing himself for Ray was amazing and just the visual of him falling to the depths of Hell was such a sight. I can't what to see how it all unfolds in the 2 remaining episodes.
The episode draws to a close at the Time Bureau where at the beginning of the episode Ava had announced that Gary was to do performance reviews. Oh he does them alright but not in a way you'd imagine. He hypnotizes each employee of the Time Bureau. Now we don't see the process but Ava, Nora and pretty much everyone else gets put under his spell. All except for Mona who as people who've read these reviews know I have issues with. Well it's up to her to save the day and once she gets the call to be reviewed her wolf side comes out play and we learn just how Gary has been hypnotizing people. He's been doing so with the power of his nipple..yes his nipple, that in last week's episode he got returned to him by Neron. Turns out his nipple which as an eye now (weird I know) has the power to completely brainwash people. But Mona after knocking some heads together (literally) gets Gary on his table and bites off the nipple leaving him with only 1 nipple again. I've just seen this not 30 mins ago and am still don't know whether to be creeped out or find it hilarious. It just happened and will take a bit of time to sink in. Speaking of Mona however this was the first episode that she's been in that I genuinely liked her in. She helps her friends when they need her most and comes off looking like a hero. A big step in the right direction for her character. As for how the episode truly ends we are brought to a darkly lit area where we see various people walking around. Constantine lands in a dumpster of all things and hops out before popping in a cigarette and walking off. The last thing we see is what looks like a giant castle of sorts in the distance surrounded by flames and other things you'd associate with Hell. So yes Constantine is indeed in Hell and he is going to find Ray. Or at least what's left of Ray. All in all though this episode was brilliant. It was borderline grotesque at times sure but it was so entertaining and that's what this show is all about really. Sheer entertainment. Only 2 episodes remain now this season so let's hope they are as good as this one was.
