Legends Of Tomorrow 4x12 : The Eggplant, the Witch & the Wardrobe review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Legends Of Tomorrow has had quite an interesting season thus far to say the very least. We've encountered swamp monsters, puppets, a bollywood musical and a not very nice fairy godmother. Well this episode continues to the trend of various outlandish things but also really brings the show back to it's core which I really liked. Beginning inside of Ava's apartment we hear a knock on the door. It's Sara who says she just wants to talk. There is no answer and there is a good reason as inside Ava's apartment has been torn upside down with things thrown everywhere. Sara still technically shares the apartment with Ava so enters and doesn't see Ava anywhere. Back aboard the waverider and we see Zari, Mona, Nora and Charlie talking. Sara walks in and says that Ava is missing. Nora suggests that maybe Neron has something to do with this and Constantine backs up her words. Sara, Nora and Constantine all go to an abandoned motel after Nora uses her connection with Neron to find out Ava's location. Turns out Neron has been preparing Ava for his next vessel and as she struggled rather than surrendering to him he has sent her soul to her very own purgatory. Sara demands that she be sent to this purgatory and Constantine agrees. So with both Sara and Ava laying down on separate beds in the waverider Constantine sends Sara to Ava's personal purgatory. And well it's a shopping mall named the megastore. Inside is things of all interest like beds, flowers and other stuff. Sara finds Ava almost right away and man is she happy to see her. The two plan to escape right away but after Gary learns of his best friend's departure into purgatory also gets sent there by Constantine. Inside Gary is a store clerk and says that there is only one way out of the store..and it's through a wardrobe. So Sara and Ava use instructions to construct the wardrobe and as they attempt to leave the wardrobe won't open. More on this a bit later.
Back at the location where Ava's body was being stored we see Neron walk into the motel room. Inside we see Ava but it's not actually her. It's Charlie who used her powers to morph into her as a way to distract Neron as behind him is Constantine who uses a spell to knock the demon out. This leads to Neron being brought to a cell inside the Time Bureau and inside he seems to really connect with Nora. She uses this to her advantage though and as it looks like she is about to take all of Neron's powers Constantine enters the room. With the demon now exposed Constantine and Nora use their own magic to defeat it. Or have they?? as while doing so Ray enters the room and tries to defend Nora. The demon goes all over the room before disappearing. Have they beat the demon?? well they think they have. But the worst is yet to come I think. Back in Ava's purgatory and the entire cause of this has been Ava's anxiety's towards her and Sara's relationship. Marriage even gets mentioned as Ava suggests that Sara truly loves her as she wouldn't have come to save her if she didn't. Sara looks away for a split second and when she looks back Ava is gone. After running around looking for her Sara finds a line of Ava dolls. Yes Ava dolls who much like Barbie dolls can do anything. So you have Adventure Barbie and so on. An announcement comes on over the P.A and says the store will be closing in 5 minutes, then 2 minutes. With time running out Sara runs for her life through the Ava doll line before encountering another door. Walking through she finds Ava who says she didn't have to come back for her again but she did. The two wake up moments later on the waverider and embrace. Gary ruins the intimate moment though which was funny.
There was a lot going on in this episode overall honestly. From everything I just mentioned to Zari's nervousness about wanting to tell Nate how she really feels about him, Constantine's really good character development with Desmond who finally gets cut from Neron's control all the way to Nate's discovery of Neron and even his dad's theme park which he gives the go ahead to fully construct. The episode comes to a close however as we see Ray walking around outside. He goes to tie his shoelace before a dog angrily starts barking at him. He says dogs usually love him before walking off whistling ''Pop goes the weasel'' earlier in the episode Neron was seen whistling the exact same thing. So like I said the worst is yet to come as Neron is far from gone. He is inside of Ray now and he's probably more angry than ever. Overall this episode went back to basics which I loved. There wasn't much jokes but those that were here really hit their mark and just as a whole this episode is Legends Of Tomorrow at it's best. Long live the Legends!
