The Flash 5x12 : Memorabilia review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
This week's episode of The Flash begins with Nora in the time vault. She is taking to Gideon and as she is talking to her her words are being documented as she is attempting to send a letter to Eobard Thawne explaining her frustrations with lying to her parents and the toll it's taken on not only herself but them. It's killing her to lie to them as she gets closer and closer with Barry and Iris. As we saw at the end of last week's episode Barry told Iris that he intends to wake up Grace (Cicada's niece) from her coma and thus in turn help Cicada stop his crusade against meta humans. Sherloque Wells comes up with a way to do this and introduces a device used by various people including Jervis Tetch aka The Mad Hatter which was a nice little not to that character. To use the device one must plug into Grace's brain waves and enter her mind. Wells says the best way to do it is in pairs but Nora completely flips at the suggestion as doing so will expose her memories to Barry / Iris and reveal her working with the Reverse Flash. Nora agrees to go with Barry at first but later that night and after Wells turns on the device Nora enters alone and meets Grace at CCPD. Nora and Grace quickly bond at first as Grace brings her to her uncle Orland's house. This happens because the portal that Nora had used to get there in the first place had closed leaving her with no way to get home. At Orland's place we see a completely different side to the man who would become Cicada. He's cheery, pleasant to be around an a great father figure to grace.
A few hours pass and Barry & Iris learn that Nora has gone into Grace's mind without anyone by her side. Agreeing to go in themselves as a pair Iris and Barry actually end up going into Nora's memories and Barry for the first time gets to visit the Flash Museum. Inside is various memorabilia of all types and even a hall of villains with names like Zoom, Dr Light and The Thinker! on display. Inside of the Flash museum is also a young Nora who has a Flash figure in her hand. Iris comes into the room and accuses her daughter of wandering off and her being worried sick. She's actually shown to be a pretty bad mother in the future and this leaves Iris from the present day pretty upset. Young Nora says she hates her and runs off with Iris in pursuit. Barry tries to calm Iris down and tells her that nothing is set in stone and that she shouldn't worry about what just happened. Continuing on their way to get out of her mind and into Grace's to help Nora, Barry and Iris trigger Nora's defense mechanism which just so happens to be the Reverse Flash. Barry and him battle it out and with the aid of Iris is able to defeat him thus opening a new portal which leads to Grace's mind. It's all pretty confusing to be honest but all in all it's an interesting premise for an episode. Inside of Grace's mind things aren't looking too good for Nora who is being pursued by Cicada. Grace accuses her of lying and says she is protecting Cicada and vice versa. Just as Nora is about to be seemingly stabbed by Cicada, Barry rushes in and him Iris and Nora all leave through a portal waking up back at Star Labs.
In the medical bay Sherloque and Caitlin reveal that there is no way back into Grace's mind as there is a piece of dark matter shrapnel stuck in her head. And we see the dark matter get stronger as we're shown inside of Grace's mind once more where she says Nora lied to her and everyone will pay. And that's how it ends. Overall? a good episode for sure with an interesting premise like I said. But it felt slow at times and ultimately kind of filler. Not so good but not so bad either. Until next week Team Flash!
