The Flash 5x6 : The Icicle Cometh review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it

This week's episode of The Flash is (pun intended) a pretty cold affair. It begins inside Jitters where a woman is seen getting 2 cups of coffee before heading to her car. Little does she know that Cicada is following her and ends up right behind her which we see through her car window. Turns out the girl has some pretty badass razor blade arm meta power and actually ends up hurting Cicada. He does eventually kill her just like he has promised to kill each and every other meta human. Back at Star Labs and after her heroics last week Nora is really growing closer to Iris as the two go on their first mission together with Sherloque Wells. And after getting back online at the ending of last week's episode Cisco tells Caitlin that he has managed to find her father inside a black ops site. Of course it's in the North Pole of all places so Cisco vibes himself Barry and Caitlin there where low and behold her father is waiting for her to come. We find out he was suffering from ALS so he used cryogenics to help rid of him of the disease. Later as Cisco goes back to the lab he vibes and sees Caitlin's father doing some rather interesting experiments. Cisco accuses him of not being who he says he is which does not impress Caitlin at all. Speaking of Caitlin however as she takes her dad out into the city for the first time in over 20 years he faints and his skin begins to turn to crystals. This leads to her coming up with a serum that will help her father. But just as she is about to give her dad the serum she remembers Cisco's accusations from earlier and goes to question her father. He tells her that she has smart friends. He transforms into pure ice right in front of them and leaves them all for dead before taking the serum.

The only way for the serum to work however is for him to get to absolute zero temperature. So with the serum in hand the newly named Icicle goes into another room inside of Star Labs and begins the process. The episode comes to an end as Barry, Cisco, Ralph and Nora along with Caitlin go to try and stop Icicle but he manages to render them useless due to the freezing air temperature in the room. Caitlin is immune to this however and Killer Frost finally returns leaving her and Icicle to do battle which was really cool. Icicle manages to escape as Killer Frost stamps on the serum. With Team Flash back to full health Barry and Nora heat up Cisco and Ralph as Caitlin returns to her normal self. Soon after Cisco learns just what happened to Killer Frost last season and why she disappeared. Turns out Devoe didn't use Melting Point's powers to get rid of Killer Frost but instead placed a mental block on Caitlin with Brainstorm's powers which made Caitlin unable to get past until her encounter with her father. It's all really good and interesting stuff honestly.
This episode was really great to be honest. I may not have mentioned everything like Ralph and Cecil teaming up to find out the name of Cicada and as I mentioned Iris, Nora and Sherloque do some digging of their own but the real highlight here is the relationship between Caitlin and her father Thomas. An ever changing dynamic that was a real treat to watch. This season of The Flash so far has been near perfect. I love the theme of family and reconnecting and just the overall narrative is so much better than last season. A very impressive episode which once again leaves me looking forward to next weeks.
