Legends Of Tomorrow 4x4 : Wet Hot American Bummer review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it

For the first time in a long time an episode of DC's Legends Of Tomorrow leaves me feeling a bit underwhelmed after watching it. That isn't to say this is a bad episode far from it but it is lackluster compared to previous episodes. It all begins in a horror movie setting much like Friday The 13th. We see two teenagers about to kiss beside a lake when a monster jumps out and runs towards them before it's stopped by Ava and Sara who are actually watching a horror movie named SWAMP THAAAANG a clear and hilarious reference to the DC Comics character of the same name. Speaking of Swamp Thing this isn't the only time he is referenced as later on board the waverider Constantine mentions knowing a Swamp Thing but the never be anywhere near a lake in Maine. And Maine is the setting for the majority of this episode as the legends investigate what has been causing magical problems at a summer cap in Maine 1995. So with Ava along for the ride this time around the legends split into pairs of two. You got Ava and Sara who really play off one another and the management of the kids at camp so well. And the other pair you've got Constantine and Ray. Ray as you can imagine is the responsible one while John sneaks off to construct a magic barrier for whatever the creature is to be.

Not joining the legends on this outing however are Zari and Mick who are tasked with looking after Charlie the shape shifter from last week who after Constantine casted a spell on is still in the form of Amaya. Charlie manages to get the better of Zari by playing dead and escaping from her prison for a short period but it's her and Mick who actually sort of get on and have an understanding together. Mick in the ends up letting her go after Charlie helps in identifying the magical creature in Maine 1995 which turns out to be a Vampire like witch who has taken on the form of the local good looking camp counsellor. With the ability to suck the life out of kids who are attending the camp he is eventually taken down by Sara and Ava who after taking a potion made by Constantine revert to their younger selves in a way to get closer to the girls to find out just what is going on. They do find out what is going on and young Sara really kicks ass and with Ava's help they end up defeating the vampire. Constantine and Ray on the other hand have a much larger job on their hands as after finding and helping the kids restore their life that was taken from them one kid doesn't wake up which leads to Constantine producing a strong powerful spell that ends up saving the kids life but possibly hurting his in the process. On the waverider Gideon says things don't look good for him unless they can find a way to revert what happened.
The episode comes to an end as Charlie who with some new gear offers to help the legends identity and defeat all the magical creatures throughout time. Sara agrees but not before the episode swiftly goes to Nora who we see making soup for what looks like a fair or something of that sort. She is pretending to be a witch but soon enough the legends will need her help as Constantine's injuries will worsen. With that being said this episode while not terrible didn't really do it for me unlike previous episodes which have each been unique and hilarious. Some jokes completely missed their mark here which is a shame as for the most part this show has always been consistent in that department. Overall it's not a bad episode by any means and hopefully it's just a blip and not a continuous trend going forward. Until next week Legends!
