The Flash : 5x3 The Death Of Vibe review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it

This week's episode of The Flash begins in the Flash Museum 2032 where we see a young Nora walking around. Inside is a bunch of easter eggs from both past and I'm sure future events of the show. As a young Nora walks around the current day Nora explains to everyone just who and what Cicada is. Apparently nobody has ever been able to defeat him. Not Supergirl, not The Flash nor The Legends or even The League (which I'm assuming is the Justice League??) she also mentions that he is in Central City earlier than expected as his first victim wasn't supposed to be Gridlock. Barry mentions it's because of Nora being with them it's sent tiny ripple effects through time which is entirely possible. Nora comes up with a solution however and it is to bring a Wells from the multiverse to their Earth. So introducing Sherloque Wells a master detective of the multiverse and already one of my favorite versions of the character. Tom Cavanagh once again knocks it out of the park in his ever changing role. Sherloque Wells is an interesting character to say the least. He's cocky, arrogant, been married multiple times and according to Cisco a fraud just like almost all other versions of Wells which to an extent is true.

Speaking of Cisco and after last week's ending Cicada's threat to kill Cisco gets stronger and stronger in this episode as it goes on ultimately leading to a battle between them both. Cicada even goes as far as to go to Joe's house and torture him for info on Vibe's location. Joe being the hard nosed cop that he is manages to survive the situation but it is Cecil who ends up sending a distress signal to Team Flash and as Cisco breaches himself to Joe's he is immediately thrown right back into the same breach by Cicada where the two do battle with Cicada mainly getting the upper hand before The Flash arrives. But just like last week Cicada's weapon drains Barry of his speed and he gets beat bad by the villain. This leads to Nora stepping up her game and coming to the rescue of both her dad and Vibe who looks like had been killed for a moment but both him and Nora only tricked Cicada into thinking so. Of course Sherloque takes most of the credit for coming up with the location (which to be honest he kind of did help a lot) and brags about it to the team. Later when Iris goes to see her dad Joe mentions that when Cicada picked up his and Cecil's daughters blanket he got this look in his eye which leads Joe to suggest that he is a father and Joe is completely right as at Central City hospital we see a young child laying in a hospital bed in a coma before Cicada walks into frame himself sporting a seriously bad looking wound. I do love the whole family theme that's been running throughout this season thus far. I know we're only 3 episodes in but already this season feels much more expansive than the previous 2 seasons as we've also got Caitlin's on going struggle to find her father as she wants to know just why he left her and her mom.
For the third straight week in a row The Flash is brilliant TV. The characters feel more rounded, more like their past selves and with the inclusion of Sherloque Wells I'm sure the only way is up. Cicada is not only a formidable threat but he's got a human side to him and Nora is delightfully enthusiastic even though she may be hiding something.... that being said The Flash is on a serious roll right now and I really hope it can continue this sort of consistency throughout the entire season. The Flash is running at break neck speed and shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
