Halloween review
40 years ago the original Halloween movie was released and even today it still holds up well and is considered by many an all time horror classic. So can this follow up to that classic deliver a final and well rounded out final chapter in the story of Laurie Strode and Michael Myers?? this version of Halloween is unlike another of it's previous sequels. It feels about as close to the original as you could get honestly and it does offer a varied horror trip even if at times it holds back a little ever so slightly, especially in a beginning that feels far too long and stretched out. Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her iconic role and she alongside Michael Myers himself are the stand outs here. Both a mother and a grandmother now the tole of what happened to her 40 years ago is shown really well in her actions and the impact that it's had on her family as they all seem to distance themselves from her. Jamie Lee Curtis carries the movie throughout and her dread and sense of threat towards Myers and what he's capable of is very believable.
Michael Myers himself is terrifyingly brilliant throughout. He doesn't say a word as he leaves his actions do the speaking and boy do his actions speak volumes. He is the most terrifying thing about Halloween as he escapes from the medical facility that he was being held at for the past 4 decades. Some of his reactions or should I say lack of reactions are what sell him as the demented killer that he is. The pacing for the most part is fine besides the previous lackluster and at some points boring set up that dragged on for far longer than it needed to. Not to mention some comedic moments were severely lacking and most just fell completely flat. It's all backed by the now iconic theme that we've all come to know and love and whenever it begins to play during the movie it makes all hairs on your body stand to attention.
With a final act that is really strong and the constantly shifting relationship between Laurie and Michael Myers Halloween is a rather impressive if at times flawed attempt at bringing the original story to a close. It doesn't beat the original in terms of overall quality and scare factor but there's enough here to enjoy and it is definitely worth checking out.
