Crazy Rich Asians review

Best on the best-selling novel Crazy Rich Asians follows the story of a young native New Yorker named Rachel Chu who journeys to Singapore to meet her boyfriends family. At it's core Crazy Rich Asians is a story about love and family and all the craziness that comes along with that. It's entirely refreshing as it really delves into it's characters backgrounds as the movie progresses along. The two main cast members Constance Wu (Rachel Chu) and Henry Golding (Nick Young) are really impressive here. Especially Wu who is as lovable as she is passionate and ambitious. Golding on the other hand plays his part much cooler and the two both share a really good on screen connection together.

Along for the ride are some old friends, crazy relatives and everything else you'd associate with one's family. But it's the character face off between Wu's Rachel and her boyfriend's mother that was the best part for me. Not wanting just an ordinary girl from a poorer background for her son she really stands up to Rachel and the way they bounce off one another is great cinema and it's all backed by a really soft and somber soundtrack that has perfectly timed moments and exposures of the characters.
Overall the pacing is great and while there is one or two stretched out scenes for the most part Crazy Rich Asians is a funny, charming and at times really emotional movie. The two leads as I said are on top form throughout and it was a joy to watch them grow throughout in a movie that really is just all about one's family and the values and sacrifices anyone would make for love. Crazy Rich Asians while not perfect is pretty close and is easily one of the best movies I've seen this year, which is not something I imagined saying before hand. Brilliant!
