Supergirl 4x2 : Fallout review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it
After last week's solid season 4 premiere episode 2 of Supergirl's new season builds upon it so well and offers a look into just what this season will be all about. It begins outside the white house as after being outed as an alien the president of the United States resigns from her post with immediate effect leaving the vice president in charge. As it feels bleak inside on the outside the White House isn't so great either as mass hysteria and chaos runs wild given that people who trusted the president feel like they've been turned on by a traitor, and just as both sides of people try to attack one another Supergirl swoops in and stops it all proudly holding the American flag in her hand standing tall to show where her loyalties lie.
Back at the DEO and after being apprehended last week Alex continues to interrogate Otis Graves to find out where is sister is and what she's planning. He lets it slip to Alex that Mercy is working with someone and as we know that someone is Agent Liberty. After successfully stealing a Luthor Corp laptop Mercy who now has possession of Kryptonite attempts to try and hack the L Corp main frame and disable the image inhancer that protects all alien's identities. Brainiac-5 is the first one to feel the change as he is in a pizza parlor that he usually visits under a different name and identity. He is completely thrown when the owner calls him a traitor and refuses to serve him. Lena manages to patch the hack moments later leaving Mercy locked out and only the main frame located within L Corp remains as an option to destroy all alien's identity inhancers. As all this is going on Kara is with Lena and when Mercy infiltrates the building and forces it into lock down Kara constantly tries to escape to don her Supergirl outfit but Lena keeps denying her. This leads to Kara taking out various guards by catching bullets and flinging them back at them and sneezing freeze breath at them in rather hilarious ways. She is eventually told to leave as Lena comes face to face with Mercy in a Lex-O suit battle. It's short lived however as Supergirl comes to the rescue and apprehends Mercy Graves placing her in custody at the DEO alongside her brother. Supergirl then gives an empowering speech about hope and how people should look out for another instead of finding ways to tear one another down and cause pain to each other. It's totally something Supergirl would say and it's great to see her be that beacon of hope for the people of National City.
The episode comes to a close as Mercy & Otis escape their holding cells thanks to a DEO agent who they convince that aliens are the threat and shouldn't be protected. It was actually Supergirl's speech that sends him over the edge which was a nice touch. Skip to a building in the city and we see Agent Liberty giving a crowd pleasing speech in which he says with the help of the people is going to take back the Earth and make it priority number 1 for humans again. As this is going on however Mercy, Otis and the DEO agent release the Kyptonite that I mentioned earlier into the air causing Supergirl to seemingly plummet to her death as that is where the episode ended with Kara one moment flying high before ultimately beginning her decent to the ground below. She'll be fine of course but it was a good way to end the episode and grab attentions towards next week's episode.
This episode was rather impressive. It didn't feature much action but it made up for it in other areas. Supergirl was on top form in this one. Roll on next week!
