Christopher Robin review
Based around the stories of Winnie The Pooh and his friend Christopher Robin this movie almost feels like a complete overhaul of the original classic tale. It tells the story of Christoper Robin played by Ewan McGregor who after growing up and having to deal with real life situations forgets his past friends as the real world begins to fully take over his life. He has a good job, he's married and he has a daughter but all he seems to care for his is work. And just as he is about to head away to his old cottage with his family he is tasked by his job to come up with cost cutting measures in order for the company to survive. This causes Christopher to pull out of the planned trip thus leaving his wife and daughter to go on their own. As they set off work takes a strong hold of Christopher and one day as he takes a moment to himself he sits on a park bench, but soon after behind him appears his very old friend Winnie The Pooh. Pooh tells him why he's here and it turns out all Christopher's old friends have gone missing in the 100 Acre Wood. Hesitant at first he eventually drops everything he's doing and journeys off to find his missing friends. It's a simple story with an even simpler setup but it is charming at times.
First off you've Ewan McGregor as the lead and he plays it really well. Trying to balance family life with work and everything else in between he does play it well. So too is Hayley Atwell who plays his wife, although she isn't really featured as much as I would have have wanted her, when on screen she is really good. But it's Winnie The Pooh himself who steals the show here. He's adorable if dim witted, he's funny and curious and everything else you'd imagine to be associated with such an iconic character. Of course he is joined by his fellow 100 Acre Wood friends including Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit and others. They are all beautifully animated and voiced really well too. As for the pacing it does take time to get going but once it does it's incredibly heart warming and a times a delight to watch
Christopher Robin is a movie aimed at kids obviously but there is a deep message within it all. Never forget who you are and where you came from. Never forget your friends and those you love and most importantly always do nothing because sometimes it becomes the best something. A very heartwarming message with some nods to the original material this is a movie for people of all ages. Enjoyable
