Supergirl 3x19 : The Fanatical review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it
This week's episode of Supergirl begins as we see Lena continuing her research on Reign after everyone helped in capturing her last week. Turns out Lena has developed yet another device that can be used against Kryptonians. As Supergirl attempts to use her X-Ray vision to see Reign it seriously hurts her eyes and she has to stop. Speaking of Supergirl her and Lena continue to bicker throughout the episode which leads to Kara feeling bad about not being able to not only trust Lena but that she can't tell her that she actually is Supergirl. She and James speak about the situation at Cat Co before a girl walks into the main office with a book in her hands. Turns out this book belongs to Coville (the fanatical cult leader from way back at the beginning of the season) it's a book of all his ramblings about Reign Supergirl and other Krypton related things. But the thing that stands out to this girl named Tonya is the recipe for a bomb of some sorts that Coville's demented followers plan to use and make in some sort of ritual. Once this season finishes up it's when the episode really kicks into gear as those same followers of Coville turn up at Cat Co they try to kidnap Tonya which leads to Guardian making the save. As he battles them in an abandoned warehouse his mask is shot off at point blank range to reveal his true identity. We the audience know it's James Olsen but everyone is shocked including Tonya that it's him under the mask of Guardian. As police show up the followers run off but later back at Cat Co James gets sent a threatening message that they will reveal his identity to the world unless he hands over the book and Tonya.
As all of this is happening Kara and Mon-El research more up on both the book and Coville and find out that it's not actually a bomb that is being made it's a substance from a rock found in space that Kara knows of. It's highly dangerous and shouldn't be messed with by people according to her. This leads to them coming up with a plan to stop the followers and ultimately stop the entire ritual. Mon-El enters the fray and becomes the hero for a moment as he infiltrates the followers hideout in an attempt to find the rock and send a signal to Supergirl. He eventually does find it and Supergirl busts in through the roof which again leads to a massive fight involving Supergirl Mon-El Guardian the followers and the cult leader Olivia who actually was the one who ended up saving Supergirl from Coville's plans at the beginning of the season. As Olivia tries to use the rock and it's powers against them Supergirl and Mon-El manage to over power her and destroy the rock. Back at Lena's place and it's learned that her and Winn have located more of the rock just floating in space but it's 5 light years away and only Jonn's ship (also from earlier in the season) is usable to go and retrieve it. So Mon-El and Supergirl set off which will tie in with next week's episode.
The episode doesn't end there however as back at the now crime scene ridden followers hideout Coville shows up and tells a cop that he feels like he's at home again. So no idea what's going to happen there. He was with Reign earlier in the season so perhaps another union with her? either way I liked this episode. It continued the trend of really solid episodes of this show and I think season 3 is overall my favorite of this show's run thus far. Until next week Kara!
