Arrow 6x21 : Docket No. 11-19-41-73 review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it

I've always been a sucker for good old fashioned courtroom battle whether it be in movies or any other form of media and with this episode of Arrow I got everything and more that gets associated with a courtroom battle. It begins as we see Dig raiding a remote island of some sorts. His target? well it's none other than the Human Target himself a returning character from season 5. We don't learn of Dig's plan right away but more on it later. At the courtroom we see that pretty much everybody is present just in time for 'The People VS Oliver Jonas Queen' to begin..a bunch of witnesses get called to provide evidence against the man who is presumed to be the Green Arrow and you can see right away that it all seems to be going against Oliver. Diaz has practically got everyone against Oliver including the judge and a new lawyer who Diaz hired to take the case arrives complete with a 99% success rate according to Felicity. Things aren't looking good for our Emerald Archer. That is until the Green Arrow drops into the room (complete with a badass entrance) and he removes his hood to reveal Tommy Merlyn! yes that same Tommy Merlyn from season 1 who died, who Oliver failed to protect. He tells the entire courtroom that he is The Green Arrow and not Oliver. He even mentions how Roy took the rep for him a few years back and he's had to live with that guilt ever since. He also mentions that he faked his own death to be able to become the Green Arrow leaving the courtroom in a sense of total shock. Not long after this he is placed into custody but as he's being taken away both Dig and Wild dog bust him free and take the same van out of the area. Turns out that wasn't Tommy Merlyn but the Human Target in disguise.  A truly brilliant plot twist by Arrow that had me jumping out of me seat with excitement. It was so good to see Tommy back even if it was short lived.

After a mid session break in the courtroom and everyone returns Oliver's lawyer suggests that he plead guilty and try to convince everyone of all the good he has done for the city. He deny's and the battle to prove his innocence continues. We get more witnesses testifying against him Dinah Felicity and others but it's Rene who ends up telling all as Diaz walks into the courtroom with Rene's daughter. With no choice but to tell the truth he caves and tells the court that Oliver is the Green Arrow and that he has killed and that the number is too high to even mention. With this solid confession the lawyer against Oliver promises the jury that he will pay this time. Oliver will not be able to wiggle his way out of this one. Speaking of Diaz he appears to have a trump card up his sleeve or does he? as Laurel gets called to testify she tells the court after much consideration I might add that Tommy is indeed the Green Arrow and not Oliver. Diaz's reaction to this as he watches on TV is rather brilliant and he ends up threatening to kill her. Lance seems very happy with Laurel's reaction as you can see it in his eyes. It's almost like he has his daughter back for a second but ultimately he knows that she isn't safe.
The verdict finally arrives and with it the jury find Oliver Queen guilty of all charges but within seconds the judge who seemingly was in Diaz's pocket over turns it and puts Oliver on probation. Oliver William and Felicity all embrace as he has seemingly dodged the arrow of going to prison. Back at the bunker and it turns out the judge was once again Human Target in disguise which was yet again another nice little twist to the plot. So with Oliver now seemingly off the list of potential candidates for the Green Arrow it leaves things open for him to fully embrace the role going into season 7 and beyond. The episode ends as Laurel actually goes to see Diaz and tries to take him out but fails turns out he has a device that stops her sonic scream dead in it's tracks. He tells her that he worked for months to try and get Oliver put into prison but that was plan A. Plan B involves killing Oliver and everyone he holds dear to him. This episode was absolutely amazing. I probably haven't done it justice but it really is great. Easily my favorite episode this season and one of my favorite episodes of Arrow period. The bulls eye has just been well and truly hit!
