The Flash 4x18 : Lose Yourself review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it
This week's episode of The Flash begins as we see Barry and Ralph go to investigate the bus where all 12 meta's were created earlier in the season when Barry was brought out of the speed force by his friends. They search the bus for clues and Ralph finds his old belly burger card which was funny but then he remembers a mysterious man who was on the bus that same day where all 12 meta's were created. As Ralph tells Barry of this he notices a bunch of dark matter build up in one place left by this same guy Ralph was on about. Turns out his name is Edwin Gaust also known as The Folding Man and he is the 12th and final meta. It's later learned that he as the ability to shift between pocket dimensions much like The Thinker can do and this is where Ralph hatches a plan. A plan to infiltrate Devoe's lair and end all this once and for all. Barry however is against this and the two battle it out for a bit where Barry comes out on top. Barry wants all Team Flash to go into the Thinker's lair and this is where the episode is at it's absolute best. More on this situation later.
Harry Wells behavior continues to spiral out of control almost as the Thinking Cap really begins to take over to the point where Joe notices that something is up and he's right. Harry is indeed using Dark Matter to help improve the cap even though he agreed that he wouldn't use it having told Cisco already. Joe talks to Harry in the hall of Star Labs and Harry seems very jumpy and almost obsessed with the cap. Joe asks him can he use it and Harry almost flips his lid telling him quite simply no. This is when Joe walks towards the elevator but not before he can look back and see Harry going into the time vault. Later in the episode as everyone is battling the Thinker and his wife inside of Star Labs Harry once again goes to the time vault and infuses the cap with so much Dark Matter that he passes out laying motionless in the time vault.
More on the Thinker's lair situation now and as the team go inside of a pocket dimension created by The Folding Man they enter and see nobody around. Turns out Devoe (who is still in Izzy Bowan's body at this point) used the same pocket dimension to get to Star Labs. And this is as I said earlier is the episode at it's absolute best as Joe takes on a returning Samuroid. Iris takes on Devoe's wife and Ralph hilariously takes on a T-Rex in a rematch from earlier in the season. They all manage to overcome their ordeals and Iris manages to transfer Barry Cisco Caitlin and Ralph back to Star Labs with Devoe's wife going back to the lair. But what of Devoe? well he manages to take over The Folded Man's body claiming it as his new host. Ralph ever the hero actually manages to subdue him but it's short lived however as Devoe breaks the cuffs and with Barry motionless after he uses one of his many powers on him he kills Ralph and takes over his body. I honestly didn't expect them to kill the Ralph character but they have. He's still going to be on the show but in the form of Devoe. The episode ends as Barry who is overcome with guilt and pain goes to Ralph's PI office and clears it out promising that he'll stop Devoe at whatever the cost. This episode while not bad didn't really do much for me apart from the third act which was just balls to the wall action. That being said I do love how much of a threat Devoe is to Team Flash. Until next week Flash!
