Gotham 4x16 : One Of My Three Soups review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it
This week's episode of Gotham begins in Arkham Asylum as we see a security guard reading a magazine but within mere seconds the alarm for one of the inmates goes off and it's none other than Jervis Tetch a.k.a The Mad Hatter. The security officer puts on ear phones and a tape player to drown out Jervis just in case he tries to hypnotize her. He hypnotizes somebody alright but it's actually another guard and as the security guard turns around to find out what Jervis is pointing at she gets her throat slit by another member of security under Jervis's control. Turns out this is all part of Jerome's plan as Jervis goes to visit none other than Scarecrow in his holding cell who appears to be working on and developing his fear toxin even more. We don't see Jonathan Crane but we do get the master of fear in all his glory as both him and Jervis go and help Jerome escape and they all walk out of Arkham together but not before releasing over 80 other inmates. The GCPD show up and subdue a lot of them but Gordon and Bullock are not convinced this is no other breakout and Jim right away can tell this is Jerome's doing..and his hunch is correct but what he didn't expect to learn is that Jervis Tetch is working with him as he calls Jim up and tells him just where he can find him. This leads to Jim and Harvey going to the location they were given and right away they are greeted by dozens of men under Tetch's control. But in the center of these men there is a newly married couple who Jervis just goes and crushes to death with a giant wrecking ball. He flees leaving Jim and Harvey dumbfounded and all his men in a state of thinking they are now chickens which was funny. More on this whole situation later.
The whole Barbara situation gets a heck of a lot of development in this episode. Most of it I didn't expect one bit but I got to admit I kinda liked it. Sure it didn't make sense if you're going by the comics but Gotham has always done it's own thing and this I'm perfectly okay with as Barbara continues to have headaches and severe ones at that recalls memories in her mind to which some give her complete nonstop pain and others allow her to recall her death and Ra's actually saving her and bringing her back from certain death. Ra's tells her that he has a big surprise for her, he wants her to lead the League Of Shadows when he is gone as he says she is stronger than anyone he's ever known and she will make for a fine leader. Barbara now awake and fully aware of her surroundings tells Tabitha that they are coming..The League Of Shadows and yes they do show up and question her to the point of where one guy even tries to kill her. Barbara bears the mark of the Demon's Head they say and they are forced to obey her even if they disagree with taking orders from a woman. Barbara really stands her ground much to the dismay and absolute surprise of Tabitha who stands behind her in an almost non existent state of complete shock. Just as The League are about to disappear into the night gunshots are heard and all the female members of the league kill the male members telling Barbara that she now has complete control over the League Of Sisters. No idea where this is going but I like it.
Bruce and Selina further their relationship in this episode to the point of where I just wanted them to kiss. There was a brilliant scene in Bruce's car where it looks like Bruce is going to kiss her but turned out he was just reaching for the car door to let her out. Later in a diner Bruce falls on top of her and they share a moment again. It's only a matter of time before they hook up. Speaking of Bruce he learns of Jerome's escape and plans to go and try to take him down himself much to the dismay of Selina and that is when she leaves him but she does come back to make the save towards the end of the episode as Jerome has Bruce cornered in his uncle's diner only for Selina to trump him and we're treated to a truly brilliant scene as the future Catwoman Batman and Joker? (maybe?) all share the screen together. Jerome makes his escape of course leaving Bruce and Selina to talk some more. Can't wait for next week's episode though as Bruce rings Gordon at the end and tells him that he is going after Jerome. Jerome V Bruce was incredible last season and I expect something similar to happen next week!
More on the whole Jervis Tetch situation now and he really ups his game as he broadcasts his hypnosis skills via a radio station causing 1000's of citizens of Gotham to climb atop the rooftops and jump to their deaths. With Gotham in panic mode Jim and Harvey rise to the occasion. Harvey ever the hero gets into a car and listens to Jervis's broadcast completely surrendering himself to Tetch so he can tell Jim what radio station he is broadcasting from. The plan works and Jim goes to where Jervis is located and shoots him in the hand as Jervis tells him he is too late. Jim of course saves the day and a whole lot of lives as back at the GCPD him and Harvey share a drink together. Jim may think he doesn't deserve to be Captain of the GCPD but Harvey tells him that the city of Gotham needs him and they need him badly especially considering he just saved countless lives. The episode ends as we see Jervis being taken back to Arkham to be interrupted by both Jerome and Scarecrow who hits the driver of the car with his fear toxin. Jerome climbs into the drivers seat and that's how it ends. This episode was completely bonkers but in true Gotham style just brilliant. This show is always doing it's own thing and I couldn't be more happy with that. Sure some may not like it but I love it and look forward to it each and every week. Until next week you crazy bunch!
